Thanks to this forum, I've never imagined that I would be able to build my own simulator. Without all the input of the people here, I don't know if I could have finished this project. I never had a clue about bungee balls, emt pipes, golf impact screens and what not! This site really HELPED ME a lot. And to think that I am not t he most handy person in the world, I was able to build it almost by myself. Of course electrical outlets were done by a qualified electrician. And thanks to my wife who allowed me to make our basement 12 feet deep. lol
I started in November and went through a lot of humps and bumps. There was the issue with the mat where I could not hit my irons. There was the issue with the driver were the cage made the space smaller that I could not hit my long irons and driver. There was the issue of the projector (the first one I got was a cheap one from Amazon). There was the issue of mounting the projector from a 12 foot ceiling by myself. I was ready to give up and call this project a failure but I grinded and grinded and read different resources online on how to fix my problems.
It was not easy and there was a lot of stress and hours and hours of research. But I was finally able to finish it. I went through different revisions as I have original put up a cage but as you can see on the pictures, I have removed the net and cage and made a regular screen. I never hit shanks or sideways so I guess I am good with this set up. Maybe in the future we will finish the basement and buy The Golf Club sim and have a proper man cave. But for now this will do.
I got my screen and fittings and net from Ebay, I forgot the seller but it was a packaged deal. I went with Sky Trak and CCE mat, which I got from Corey from Par2Pro. Very good customer service! I got my emt pipes 1 inch x 10 from Home Depot. I got a projector from Amazon but it was the cheap one so I got a better one online from Newegg.ca, I think it's aViewsonic. Same with the gaming PC I use. Then I got another strip of mat from Ebay, it was just a generic one but not the cheap and thin one.
Overall I am happy with my set up and we just played 18 holes with friend last weekend and every one was happy. We got the E6 Demo and the Fitness Golf software. The screen also doubles as home theater. I just put the clips and the bungees to tighten and flatten the screen and remove them when I am playing.
I wish our basement layout was different, I could have put a 16 feet wide screen instead but the stairs made that impossible. But, as my friends said, I should be happy for even having a golf sim as they said in their lifetime, they can never imagine their wife letting them build one. lol So I guess I should be satisfied.
If you have any questions, just send me a pm or reply in this thread. I am no means an expert but I can share my experiences and what I have learned in the process. If you'll ask me if I will do this again? Maybe? It was so much harder than I have imagined it to be.
