  • How far from wall to mount Carls screen (permanent)

    Hello,

My new sim room is getting closer to completion, and I'll be ordering my new screen soon to be permanently mounted. My plan is to frame it with 2x6's attached to the wall with angle iron screwed to the 2x6's to attach the bungies. Will this be enough clearance, and do I need to put something behind the screen to deaden the impact?

    Thanks,

    Bob

In my research i've found that 18" is the generally accepted distance from screen to back wall. With that distance you can have just a high quality screen and get little to no bounce back. Putting a net behind the screen will increase the screen's longevity. If space is a a premium (as it is for people like me), some people have successfully even reduced the distance to as little as 8". This is what I will be doing. People who 'go low' like this generally say that they back the impact screen with at least a net, and often multiple layers like a net + memory foam. Not sure about the 2x6's... I'm planning on just securing the angle iron directly to the walls & ceiling.

This info is just filtered from all my research... I'm sure some people with actual experience will chime in... Good luck!

    Cheers, Mike

Totally agree about not recommending 2x6s. I hung mine from 1 EMT from the ceiling.

You will love the Carl’s screen. I purchased my first one on clearance. Love it so much. I purchased another one just in case. Everything about it is awesome.

Ditto. Bought the Carl's premium on clearance and can't find a flaw anywhere. Awesome quality! Instead of buying 2 like you, I put myself on the direct from the mill list for a future backup!

Agree! The lady told me it was an oil stain. I hung it up and still to this day can't find the issue. Please tell me more about this direct from the mill.

Hey mike...I planned to purchase a Carl's Preferred screen, but was just wondering where you saw the clearance stock advertised?

Sleepygolfer12 - My first screen I purchased was the standard from the clearance section. It's a awesome screen. Love it so much I purchased a backup which is a preferred. I cant find a single thing wrong with either one.

They will be only screen I will buy from now on. Their projector distance calculator is a big help as well.

The link for Carl's is http://www.carlofet.com/.
