  • Padding for your EMT frame

What are people doing to pad their frames and prevent bounce back on wayward shots that are direct hits on the frame?
Had a couple that came back and could have caused an injury or damage.

    Thanks.

You’ll have folks say to use those pipe insulation but I can assure you....those almost act as a spring like affect and that ball is gonna come back blazing fast. You need to do something where the bar has no chance of being hit. In my opinion, it’s best to have a Velcro around the border of the screen. Then you can attach your side curtain and top to the screen itself and it’ll make it so ball can’t hit bars at all. I have heavy tarp hung on the side so I glued Velcro to the back of that and attached to screen. Let me know if you need pictures.

Yes send pictures I am a month of putting mine together and was wondering how to cover the frame.

Agree with Cooke, I have blackout curtain attached to the top of my screen (about 6 inches lower than bar) then comes towards the hitting area and offers both ceiling and bar protection. Impossible for a ball to find the bar.

Yes, I tried the pipe insulation and that definitely doesn't work.
My design is a little different and my side curtains aren't going to afford the required protection even if I Velcro them to the screen.
I was thinking of making up some sort of bean bag pouches but just looking for other ideas.

I started with pipe insulation and it didn't work. I have the side material right up to the screen with solid foam pads connected to the EMT behind the side material. The foam pads are the interlocking 12" x 12" foam pads you can get at any home improvement store in the flooring dept. You can cut them to fit. They work great and I have had zero ricochets after putting them on.

They've been tried and about killed the user. I can't remember who used them though

Best to offset the frame to a secondary frame with bungee cord that way the ball does not hit anything solid where the curtains meet the screen Click image for larger version

Boo, I’m heading to Detroit tomorrow 1/9/19 and can stop on my way back south in the afternoon. I just can’t picture in my head how to build an enclosure so there are no pipes in the corners by the screen.

Make your stance area closer to the screen, like eight to ten feet...it makes a twelve foot picture rather immersive.

I added some nylon material to cover the Metal poles. I glued Velcro to the side and to the black part of the screen and have the nylon material at an angle. Does an ok job. If I were to do it over I would do what Boo Radley suggested.

So those fatigue mats work that much better than pipe insulation? I never would have guessed that. I have a bunch of these and one set that doesn't match the others. I could cut them up and make then fit nicely.

I have the Carl's DIY enclosure and added on the triangle memory foam wedges that Velcro in with their flaps. I can tell you, these definitely work. I have a video of my wife hitting right into them

Check my post on this thread: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...138#post338138

I'm really happy w/ the foam triangles + curtain material. Really durable, looks fantastic, and is working great so far.

i also bought the Carls and the foam insert kit, but I was surprised that they only protect the enclosure around the screen frame. There is no protection around the outer frame that is closest to the golfer. A good golfer should never hit it but I could see someone like my wife hitting it which is making me nervous. I’m trying to figure out how to pad those bars and was considering pool noodles but I am glad that I read this thread.

Does anyone have a recommendation for padding the outer frame? Am I worrying about nothing?
