  • Side panels - needed or not?

    Question for the group.

I’m still in design mode for a new sim/media room.
Question I have is around the need for the side panels....
i totally get the protection above for short wedge shots.
But have never found much use for the side panels.....a couple friends have them on there’s and we’ve never hit them at all.

I suppose i can can always add them later.

Anyone else chosen to forgo having some sort of side panels?

    thanks so much 😀

I've never had side panels. When I had a 10 ft wide screen I did put a couple holes in the drywall but I was offset to that side. I've since upgraded to 16 ft hitting from center and have never hit the side wall. Just depends on the width and skill level. I just prefer the clean look.

SIDE PANELS ARE NEEDED. I just debated the same thing. I even bought an extra SportScreen from Par2Pro and kept it in the box after I saw how big my 10’ impact screen was. I was thinking of returning it. I had 5 friends over the first night and have two holes in the drywall. Over the course of a year or two that would be 100 I bet. Therefore up went the side protection. We had 15 people over last night and wives, kids, non golfers eta played and no holes! One guy even hit the Skytrak twice which I never saw how that was even possible. I have the case for it and no damage

I did the same thing with my extra Sportscreen net. The first one I was sent was like a prototype so they sent a new one at no charge.

Sorry, I think I sent you a direct message when I intended to comment. I’m new here. Did you buy that side net or is it custom made?

Are you using 2 SportScreens (1 behind impact screen and 1 for side)? Couldnt quite tell from picture. I am looking to do the same and interested in how the setup is working for you.. Also, if you wouldnt mind sharing, how are you attaching the side screen with the front screen? Appears you have some clips keeping them together (so ball doesnt go through)? Thanks for any advice you can provide..

My screen would be close to 13ft wide vs the 10ft.

I wonder if if that makes a difference?

Personally I’ve only two hit my sides twice. I think it looks nicer with the black sides and increases picture quality. Maybe it’s just me

I'm still planning out my installation, too, but I've decided that the side panels are a must for my garage sim.

One, for the cleaner look. Being able to pull the side curtains and hide all of the 'stuff' in my garage will make the sim more immersive and professional looking.

Two, for that 'one' errant shot. My kids are 7 and 11, and whether it's them, me, or one of my friends, someone will eventually hit a shot that will end poorly. I don't want a golf ball traveling 100+ MPH bouncing around in my garage after hitting a hard surface.

We've been hitting into a net while I plan the sim, and one shot that missed the net and ricocheted back almost hitting my son made the decision pretty easy.

Really depends on your willingness to patch drywall. Swinging inside is weird. The shanks can happen to anyone.

I didnt have a side net up at first. A buddy came over, 2hcp and put 3 holes into the wall. He just felt weird swinging inside and it showed. I patched those holes and put up the side net.

Just finished installing my side panels last night. I have a 15 wide screen and hitting from 10 feet my buddy whacked my wall twice first time over.

I hit in my garage and do not have side panels. I'm about 8-9 feet from my screen which is 10' wide. I have never missed the screen in the ~2 years playing but a shank can definitely happen. I guess I've been lucky. It only takes one bad shot to take out a window or drywall.

Oh god, yeah they are a must in my house. I've shanked one hard and it almost broke a window on the other side of the garage. Since then I've put up protection while I come up with a better option for netting in my garage.

I'm in the process of building too. Protection on the right for shanks is a definite - for me anyway. The question is whether protection on the left side is necessary other than for cosmetic or symmetry reasons. Has anyone managed to hit their left wall or protection?

I just finished my enclosure and have it even on both sides. However, the thought of having one side longer than the other crosses my mind. I even went so far as to look into the emt fittings that would be needed.

For now. I plan to try it out as is and see if I need the make any adjustments.

Side curtains just make for an overall nicer look and until last night I never thought they were needed. I had a buddy hit my right curtain 2 or 3 times.
