Mounting or Finishing Raw Screen Material

The mill thread is so long I figured it would be good to start a new thread.

What are everyones plans for hanging the raw screen material. Is everyone planning on having the edges finished like carls? I'm assuming putting large eyelets right in the material is not a good idea as it may pull the material and look wavy on the projector.

People have mentioned tarp clips and ball bungees. Seems like a good way to go, but I haven't seen anyone post pictures using this method. Is the screen smooth, does the material slip out of the clips over long periods of time after repeated swings?

Sounds like a good way to do it then. Do you have any pictures? At what intervals did you put the clips?

I have them spaced about 18-24" apart across the top and about 30" down the sides.

I didn't have much luck with the tarp clips. The shark bite style are pretty good but still didn't give me what I wanted. I will say that I have a very tight screen though. I ended up buying a cheap grommet press and put grommets in myself. It turned out very well in my opinion and I didn't have any issues with grommets pulling thru. I'll attach some pics but I just doubled my raw screen and used wide flanged grommets.

No sir. I must say I'm pretty pleased with how well my screen has held up considering how often I bash balls into it. I've got over a year on that screen now and it still looks great. That is the par2pro sq screen.

Gary your screen looks great. Pretty much what I'm going for. I like the grommet idea more than the tarp clips if they work. I'm going to look into that, where did you buy the press/grommets.

Something like that, not sure if that's the exact one. Had to buy a 1/2" hole punch too. Also, you need to be sure to get a wide flange grommet too.

Gary - your setup looks great! How did you attach the screen to the angled ceiling in the pic? I have the same basic shape in my shed. I’m trying to use angle iron on the walls with tarp clips and ball bungees, but I’m struggling to get the tension right, and I haven’t figured out how to attach the screen and/or black canvas to the ceiling. Please let me know what you’d do. Thanks!

Gary I am planing my impact screen and this frame looks great! It’s exactly what I was looking for. If you wouldn’t mind could you provide me some info on how you built it? What dimension lumber did you use and how did you anchor the sides without a wall?

Did you just fold over extra SQ RAW material and put the grommets in or did you put a hem in?

Just folded over and doubled the material.

DirtyGarry24 What material did you use for the blackout surrounding the sides of the screen? And how did you attach it? I have a similar A-frame and struggling to do find the best way to attach the black framing pieces.

I used black out drapes from Chicago Canvas. I put 1" foam on 3/8" plywood, then wrapped with the drape material and stapled in the back. Kinda like building a seat cushion. Then attached those pieces to my frame from the backside.

Thanks! That's about the only way I can think to do it as well. Was going to try velcro but I have two issues with that 1) the black material is heavy (carpet) and velcro likely won't hold and 2) I can't think of a good way for the carpet to hang flush to the screen without moving too much. Will probably try to velcro just to rule that method out. If it doens't work, I'll use your approach. Thanks for the response. Very helpful.
