Anyone ever try using mass loaded vinyl for reducing noice in their sim room? Seems like a pretty good solution and I watched a video saying it helps with impact noise. Curious if anyone has tried and what they thought. I feel like I would have to use this with insulation and still decouple the walls/ceiling to get any improvement.

Peesh - I run a recording studio, and I looked at these solutions when we were building. The key to remember is that the only thing that stops sound from traveling is mass. So, the more mass you can put into your walls (whether it’s two layers of 3/4” wall board or a panel of mass loaded vinyl or a concrete slab) the less sound waves can travel through it. In the end, you’ll probably need to de-couple using j-channel anyway.
Cbears is correct that green glue is a good choice to reduce low-end frequencies from traveling through walls, but I’m not sure how many of the frequencies associated with impact noise are in that low-end spectrum (below 80hz).
If you’re looking for insulation choices, I suggest Safe and Sound. It’s good stuff for the money, and you can get it at Home Depot. It will help to stop some sound transmission between walls, but the most important thing is the amount of mass that you use.
