  • Carl's Pro Enclosure Kits

I have seen that many on this forum have used Car's DIY enclosure kit. Does anyone use or has anyone seen the Carl's Pro enclosure Kit. I called and talked with the company and they were telling me that the side panels and top netting only need a few inches of space between enclosure and walls or objects. Also it seems like a really nice finished look. Just looking to get some information or first hand accounts of this enclosure.

I did end up purchasing the Carl's pro kit. I know it is expensive but I wanted a more professional look.

      Pros:
      1) love the spandex side walls very tight no wrinkles. Also can stop balls
      2) love the custom bumpers that go around screen to hide the pipes. Very thick and Velcros nicely into place
      3) Pretty easy to install. Did it my self in about 2 hours.
      4) Getting the pipe from Carl's. In the end this was a huge pro. Each piece is cut perfectly to size. Also there are depth marks marked so you know how deep the pipe needs to go into the fitting. This is also a CON about the pipes see below.
      5) All inner seams are covered with material. There are no exposed ties or pipes
      6) The fit of the enclosure material fit the metal frame I put together like a glove!. Looks very professional

      Cons:
      1) price. I thought I could just buy the enclosure drapes to save money and purchase 2.5 in emt. That way I could get a high end look but keep it reasonable. I was very wrong. This enclosure takes special pipe that can only be purchased from Carl's as an add on or a specialty dealer. Through a specially dealer it get pretty expensive and then you have to cut and mark depths etc. It was a little more through Carl's but worth the hassle of freight shipping specialty pipe. If you end up getting this enclosure, you will want to do it with pipe included.
2). Top netting. I know that the top netting is there so that is is sprinkler compliant for studio spaces. I prefer that top of the enclosure being blacked out. I bought a black cloth from Chicago canvas to go over and cover the top portion to black it out. Added another $150
3). I included a side view of the enclosure. Where my enclosure is in my garage I can see the back pipe. This is only viewable from the outside not the inside. I would have preferred every piece of pipe to be covered from every angle for that price. I know its picky but its also pricey.

Hope this helps. I am almost finished with the build. I will post a start to finish project pics when completed. Need to finished the holes and the putting green.

Nice write-up. Much appreciated. I will also be looking at this enclosure when my sim moves into the garage. The enclosure does not fit the basement set up I am currently building.

Be careful with the height and depth. The advertised height width and depths are approximations. You must go to the specs page on their site to see the actual dimensions. I got the 2nd to largest enclosure at a depth of 5ft not the 10ft. I am 6 feet tall. And with driver I would be able to hit the cross bar with a ten foot depth.
It is not an issue with the 5ft depth. Just FYI

Thank you for this post!   How far is the ball from the screen? How tall is your screen?  I'm 6'2 and I'm looking to build mine with a 4-5' depth. Are your wedge shots hitting the top netting?

If you check out the pic my tee is 9ft 7in from the screen. The internal height from floor to netting is 8ft 7in. With a 5 ft enclosure depth you will be just fine and not hit the cross bar at 6ft 2 in height. I play with a 58deg wedge as my most lofted club. My normal wedge shot hits the screen first then netting and then down to floor. If you play a flop it will hit net first then screen. Remember I have a GC2 so there is a good window. I prob play my wedge shots at 9ft 3in, from screen.

Not sure if this is against the rules, but could you give me a ballpark price for the pro enclosure? This looks really nice

The enclosure draping and screen was about 3200 and the 2.5in piping was about 1500. My dimensions were the 16:9 ratio with 8.5ft x14.5ft x5ft with the Premium Golf impact screen. Different configurations and sizes will give you different prices. For exp you could save a few hundred going with the non premium screen.

I pulled up the site last night and they are completely sold out. Looking at late may/early june.

Would I be correct to assume a lot of the cost for the piping was delivery?

Welcome to Quarantine. All the golf sim stuff is sold out right now. I have had friends try and purchase items. From launch monitors to mats, there are so many things on backorder.

(Use Schedule 40 Aluminum, trade size 1.5", actual OD 1.9"). I think I mis-spoke earlier post saying it was 2.5in This is the exact specs on the framing pipe. To buy it from a specialty place it was ~$100 for a 20ft piece. They would not sell it in smaller units. Then you had to pay for freight shipping. When I tried to originally buy the pipe on my own. The guy form Carl's said that everyone that orders just the draping ends up calling back for the pipe once they figure out the PITA it is.

For anyone that has installed a Carl’s screen and frame, how close is the height and width to the numbers in the specifications? I have 113” from floor to basement ceiling joists (lowest points of open ceiling) and 147.5” of width. The 9x12 screen and frame specs say that it is in 112” high and 146.33” wide. Are those numbers accurate. If so, it would be perfect because I would like it snug. The width is across a lowered portion of my basement (really a sunken floor in the middle of a room which is 26” deep). Above that lowered portion of the floor I have 160” of width. It would be terrible to order and it turns out that with the frame and materials wrapped around it that the kit ends up wider than specs. I’d hate to go down a screen size if the 9x12 will fit.

                  thanks for any help

Just curious how much lighter is the aluminum piping compared to emt? I already put together Carl’s largest diy 16:10, no complaints and I ordered the pipe bumper protectors made out of that thick memory foam..works great.

I like the rubber mats you used as a base? Where did you get those?
