  • Anyone use gutter foam?

Anyone use something like this at the bottom of their screen to deflect worm burners, or maybe even cover in fabric and velcro along the sides as protection at the inside corners of your frame/screen?

I will have a 10'x10' frame, and thinking I could wrap these in some black fabric, or even use as is, put some adhesive velcro on and attach to the edge of the screen or something... My just use curtain at the sides, but at minimum I'm pretty sure I'll use some of this along the floor to deflect balls from going under the screen.

I had the exact same idea but- my screen hangs loose and tends to flip up on a hard shot and the screen gets caught on the foam instead of dropping back in place. I'll bet it would work if your screen is attached at the bottom though.

Thanks.. maybe 2-3 very loosely attached tarp clips/bungees along the bottom behind the foam to allow the screen to absorb the ball energy, but keep the edge from flipping up high enough to get over the foam.. will have to play with it and try.. They have this stuff at my local Menards, so when I get things set up I could try it out first and see how it works, return it if it doesn't.

Good plan. I got the stuff with the same intentions then lost the receipt.... I figure I'll find some use for it eventually. are you going to have the angled edge facing you or the flat side? I'm wondering about a vicious rebound coming back at your face if you have the angled side towards you. Not sure how much energy they'll absorb.
You don't want to "lose face", neither in the Bushido code nor in your golf simulator...

My take is unless you wrap the gutter foam with something it's going to pretty well disintegrate with the first few wormburners. It's mostly air since it's meant to not impede water flowing through it.

You know I was able to get a feel of this stuff last week at the home store... agree, it was pretty airy.. but did not seem to pull apart very easily.. the foam matrix within it felt pretty substantial.. and each 4 foot section was only 5 bucks, so I would think it will slow down a ball plenty, and if a piece falls apart after a few shots, $5 gets me a replacement..

Also hope I don't hit all that many only 4" off the ground to worry about long term repeated use..

I use it. It does work but low shots will take chucks out. I plan on using extra putting turf and double sided tape for the top. Should help save it.

I literally was in home depot looking at the same gutter foam as a solution to border frame my screen. Didnt pull the trigger as i was thinking i needed to wrap it in fabric.

Wish there was a go-to solution for black screen borders. I am also on a 10x10 screen so i want to cover the top and bottom unused space on a 4:3 picture.

I used this for black screen border. It's a 6' width by whatever length you need. Then I just cut it to the width i needed for sides and top, wrapped velcro around my frame and it sticks to it really well. https://www.menards.com/main/floorin...308-c-6542.htm

I used this, wrapped in left over commando cloth so it blends with the side curtains. My screen hangs loose at the bottom, kind of brushing the floor. This sits 2-3 inches in front, just set on the floor with 45° angle facing out.

Before the cloth, one chunk had been taken out of it. I glued it back in, and the cloth seems to protect it better...or at least holds the chunks in place! It’s definitely been hit since, but nothing has come loose.

I use this. It comes in 5' sections.

I picked up one of these from my local farm supply store and wrapped some black fabric around it. It works great, I've had multiple guys drill driver into it and it stops the ball dead every time.
