  • Enclosure depth - 1 ft ok?

After months of research, ordering and waiting, it seems this will finally be real very soon after my simulator arrived over a month early! Got the EMT today and building the enclosure is step 1. Starting with fresh spot (see pic in garage attached). The question is - as you can see in the corners I have depth marked out from the "wall" (shelving) in chalk. Moving out 1 ft from that and then Carl's (using their fittings) says has to be 1ft minimum depth for enclosure so using that is current plan (for a total of 2 ft). Anyone done only 1 ft depth enclosure or so and had any issues with stability or anything else? I may go a few inches more if I can but want to be able to get cars in still and wife is already annoyed . Also you can see the edge shelve at top which is basically the "wall" I am staying 12inches from... does screen bend less right at top/could I go a bit closer to that to set the entire enclosure back even 2-3 more inches? Thanks everyone!

If I’m understanding correctly, my enclosure is about 4.5 feet deep. Ceilings are 9 feet high, and I’m hitting about 12 feet from hitting screen. And I can easily hit the ceiling with my wedges. So 1 feet might be short, unless I’m misunderstanding

I plan to pad the roof for a few feet in front of the enclosure/cage for wedges with a big piece of foam I ordered. Seems even if I make 3-4 ft I'd have same problem as you but that being said, that is one reason to make it as deep as possible but unfortunately I can only go maybe 2ft max. Be hitting 10-11 ft likely from screen so roof will be getting roof regardless it seems.

The closer you hit from the screen, the more shallow you can make the enclosure. I hit from relatively close -- only about 7 feet from the screen. My enclosure is only 2.5 feet deep and never an issue. I couldn't imagine hitting the ceiling if I tried. So if you're concerned about enclosure depth, consider hitting from closer up.
