  • Weighing Down Screen

I am trying to tidy up the bottom of my screen, I currently have the Carl’s preferred and am letting it hang loose at the bottom. I am seeing that some people get nylon tubes and fill with sand then attach to the bottom of the screen. This seems like a good option but I don’t have easy access to a sewing machine so am looking for other options. I am seeing that there is “hem tape” on Amazon that you iron on without the need for any sewing. Has anyone tried this on an impact screen or have any other options they think would be not too much hassle?

    Thanks for any responses

Doesn't Carl's have some sort of sand bag that ties to the bottom of the screen or something? I thought I recalled seeing that before.

It looks like if you buy their enclosure systems there is an included “weighted bag” that can be used to weigh down the screen. I have the raw screen so nothing to attach directly to a weighted back. I was hoping to buy some nylon tubing and sand to use in a similar fashion. My problem is how to attach the tubing to the screen without sewing a hem. I could maybe just try placing the sand tube on top of the screen on the floor but worry it will be too taught and produce more bounce back than I would like.

Someone posted in the past few months just using EMT and some sort of snap clamps, might be an option there?

That could work pretty well. I would probably switch out the EMT for PVC or some sort of nylon tubing with sand. Don’t want to have a ricochet risk.

Yesterday I bought a long sand fill bag from Amazon that I am going to try out too. Looks like something you would put in front of a garage to stop flooding. I am going to try and see if that would work in a similar fashion. If not I think I’ll try the pipe plus sand option

Lead rope along the bottom works well. Can be found at most fabric shops

I'm having the same issue as OP... My screen is backed by a moving blanket, which works well unless you catch one low, or are putting. Those balls go right under and hit the back wall, and I have to dig around to find them. Trying to figure out how I can weight the bottom to stop putts and low shots, without taking the whole screen down to sew it.

I’m using a sportscreen with the photo background sheet over top. And let me tell you, avoid that metal bar through the bottom of the screen. First day, took one of the bar and in the mouth! So now I’ve put a dog bed behind there temporarily which helps immensely, but now I’m hesitant to hit woods in there until I find some sort of solution.

Sorry if this is a little off track but I'm looking to upgrade to the retractable sportscreen. I didn't think I would need the photo background for picture quality. I currently have the pr20 archery net with the photo background but wanted to get rid of it. How big of a difference does it make?

I have no frame of reference really cause the photoshop background was the only thing I’ve ever had up there in front of the sportscreen. I’ve just ordered a triple layer impact screen as I’ve found the rebound to be violent without an impact screen. I will admit that the picture looked great with the photo background, I’ll try both with and without it when the impact screen shows up, I’ve also found it to be very loud

Wedge foam should shoot the ball up the screen like a ramp

                  As an update...

I did buy a long “snake” sandbag to put at the bottom of my impact screen. It won’t stay in place when hitting above a 8 iron though (not too surprising). My next step is to use gorilla glue fabric glue to try and make a loop enclosure for the sand bag. I haven’t had a chance to give it a try yet though. Hoping to put it together this weekend. Will update when tested.

Where does one get a long “snake” sandbag? I’ve been looking for something like that for this exact reason

this is the one I got from Amazon. My only issue is that it is a little too thick for the amount of excess I have at the bottom of my screen. I am thinking I may switch to a piece of nylon tubing like you use for irrigation systems. Figure that is less likely to crack than PVC and won’t bounce like metal.

I bought some steel strips from home depot, put them inside round pipe insulation, and then zip tie to the bottom eyelets. Weighed it down like I wanted, but more ricochet when hit directly than I expected. Filling the inside of foam pipe insulation appears the way to go, but need to find something soft to fill it with is my next task.

Use boat rope (what a boat would be tied to a dock with).

It can't ricochet balls, is at least 2" thick, and weighs more than enough.

I like the rope idea. I just bought a weighted jump rope, I think some people call them battle ropes, from Amazon. It looks a little thinner but is still 3 lbs which I am hoping will be enough to weigh down the screen.
