  • Ceiling Protection

I have my simulator built, but forgot about ceiling protection. I have about 1 foot from the top of my impact screen to the ceiling. I was thinking of putting a net under tight tension that would be level with the top of my impact screen. I'm not 100% confident this idea will work.

Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you handle this? Pics would be great.

    Thanks,

Ceilings are 10' at hitting area and taper down to 8' high at the screen (not installed yet). I have it set up so any stray balls will bounce off the carpet tiles into the screen. 2nd photo is from the screen looking back into the room (back wall is 22' from screen). I have an electrician showing up this weekend, any suggestions (i.e. separate halogen light over hitting mat, power for computer, etc.)?
Sorry for the late post, and your project is well under way, BUT, I think you may come to regret your choice of screen size. 8 feet high is not very high. Your short irons will most likely be flying over your impact screen and banging into your sloped ceiling. Carpet tiles alone won't sufficiently deaden the impact.

Better choice would have been to spring for a 10 foot high screen. Then all but flop shots would be hitting the impact screen, and not the ceiling.

It would be painful to do a re-think and change your construction, but I think you may regret your current design.

      Aja,

Thanks for the comments... Unfortunately, we all have to work around the space limitations we have. Due to HVAC, electrical, etc. that couldn't be moved, I was limited to a 10' wide screen which then drove the screen height at 8'. You'll notice my left wall is on an angle (13' wide at opening, 10' wide at screen). My ceiling height is 10' above where I swing so no issues there.

I hit some balls yesterday, 12' away from the screen and my PW still hits the top of the screen. I knew 60 - 52 degree wedges were going to hit the ceiling which is why I'll put up appropriate padding under the carpet on the ceiling near the screen.

I've seen this enclosure design used before with similar dimensions so I'm comfortable with the build design. Once again, this design is targeted at funneling all errant or lob wedge shots into the screen. If I experience any issues I'll post them on this board so others can learn.

Now the fun begins, pick out a projector, spec a computer and finalize a LM choice (Skytrak or GC2)! If Protee announced a LM I'd probably go that direction. Any Beta testers out there that can give me a wink?

      Thanks!

Any have ideas for a low ceiling that is susceptible to a club hitting the top? Think plywood and carpet tiles will be enough to prevent damage to the ceiling?

I used OSB and foam workout squares Brad nailed to the OSB. Club glanced off and no shock in the arms

Thank you! Whatd you use for the flooring? Has anyone used a cable to hang projector? If so what kind did you get. Sorry total novice here

I Gerry rigged 2 stance mats onto a single grid of those same foam squares. Then floor stapled (carped staples) the stance mat to those. Doesn't move and is spongy and comfortable to stand on.
I then Cutout my 20" hole for the CC elite strip from eBay.

Building a sim also and have been wondering about hitting low wedges etc.... And keeping them in the enclosure.

If in hitting 9-10 feet back from screen but cage sides and front overhang come back towards me 4ft, will the be adequate to contain these high lofted shots?

I used Osb and the foam squares at the screen and room intersection. It damps the spin and sound. The key is to be close enough or a screen height that makes a 40* or so trajectory.
      Working...
