  • Carls 12x9x5 BYO wedge flyers and other questions

So looking at the 12x9x5.... I have 10' ceilings, using a Mevo+ and will be standing at 8-9' tops from the enclosure.

    1. Will I fly a 58 or 60 edge at that distance? I see searches with arguments for both.

    2. Wondering about me coming in contact with the top of the enclosure with my driver, I'm about 6'3" and wondering if that's going to be a problem.

    3. The accessory kits for the build your own... I will get the pre-sized pipes framing kit as I have no interest or tools in cutting them to length. Is the foam kit worth it? I see 1" pipes and hear foam and think pool noodles would do the trick for easily less than $320. What an I missing there?

    4. Looking at the Optoma 1080hdr, wondering if this will do the trick and what ceiling height I need to mount from?

    Thanks for the help!

I have the same or similar size enclosure and about 10 ft away. With a lob wedge under normal swing conditions I hit the screen at about 6-7 ft up, but it does spin up sometimes and come back about 4ft. I’ve had buddies who probably turn a 60 wedge into 80 so I’ve had them hit the top bar!

You’ll have enough clearance to swing a driver…

Pool noodle won’t do jack to stop a ball ricocheting back at you doing 100-170 mph. The number one place that gets hit the most at my house is the bottom bar from topped shots, drives etc. Even the worst of shanks hasn’t come close to the right corner bar. I bought the wedge foam from carls just for the bottom and it helps a lot, but it’s still not enough. I’ve rolled old white towels in the main middle section with the foam and that has been the solution for us.

With the projector at 10 ft ceilings I wouldn’t think it needs to be any lower than 9ft, if the mounting kit has an extension pole you should be able to adjust it for best picture and out of the way of any swings.

As far as cutting pipes, I just went to Lowes and they have a pipe cutting tool. If you get the right person they can cut all the pipes to your desired length on a machine. Might save you some money…

    Cheers,

    John
