Hey all, my home is almost finished, so I actually have to make some final decisions on this golf simulator. Diagram below. The soffit and opening (which will have a barn door that slides back behind the wall) can't be helped, nor can the step into that exercise room - also ignore holes in back wall for plumbing.
Question 1 (most important, as I need to order an appropriately sized screen ASAP): I am planning to go with a wooden frame for the 16:9 screen, after talking to a few vendors. The width of the screen area, drywall to drywall is around 14' 11.5". One vendor suggested I could take the drywall off, put hooks into the studs, and have a 15' wide screen secured to the studs with bungees. In this scenario, there's essentially no gap or very minimal gap/suspension between screen and wood frame. Has anyone done this? This would be nice, as I'd have an 8'7" tall screen, then, for the 9' space below the soffit. Conversely, another vendor suggested giving a solid 6" on either side between rigid framing and screen to suspend with bungees, making the screen a foot less wide. Any examples of how either has been done well?
Question 2: For the bottom, I have flooring to be installed wtih 1/4" plywood, 1"eva foam tiles, then TFD putting elite. Could I put hooks directly into the 1/4" plywood to secure the bottom? Or do I need to plan for an additional 4x4 on the bottom?
Question 3: Do you need plywood behind padded carpet tiles for wall/ceiling protection? Or could you secure padded carpet tiles, by themselves, to the wall/ceiling for protection with adhesive? (an example here: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Greatmats-R...d&gclsrc=3p.ds)
Any and all suggestions, given the limitations of this space (the soffit starts about 14" wide, 12" tall, then narrows significantly. The functional height I have available for the screen is 9 feet, though the rest of the space is 10') would be greatly appreciated!!!
