  • 12 foot celiing height - What to do about screen size and gaps?

My buildout consists of a 17Wx15Dx12H hitting bay.

Now that I am pricing screens, I am concerned that most screens have a max height of 9.5 feet (without seams; this is the likely max height for image anyways given width).

I am at a bit of a loss as to what the appropriate screen size should be and what to do about the sizeable gap that will be above the screen. If I use a 9.5H screen, I can use longer bungees, but how do I cover the gap and have it look professional (this is in a commercial space) and still stop errant shots that happen to go that high?

I have seen some setups with trim or "wings" presumably attached to the angle iron with Velcro, but im not sure if this is the right way to go here.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

If you want to settle for a max height of 10 feet or so, that's your choice. There is nothing wrong with seams. You could get a much larger image. Settle on the screen format, widescreen 16:9, 16:10, traditional 4:3, and so on. See how your space could accomodate this.

If this is "commercial" consider the effect that a large image might have on attracting clientele. You'd definitely want a HD quality image, regardless of screen format.

For ideas Google "golf simulators", and check out Houzz.com as well.

Some sims use baffles above the screen to catch high flying shots. See my post in this same section "ProTee Sim Room". There is a little bit about the baffle system I installed.

Aja. I would like the larger image, but I am having difficulty locating HD projectors that have a 16:10 format. Most HD that I found were 16:9, which would mean that I could only get a 9 foot image at 16W anyways, no?

Don't forget Pintrest too... Lots of great sim ideas there too.
