I have the PR20 impact screen from westcoastnetting and was wondering if there is a way to quiet the sound from the golf ball? Right now it sounds like a gun going off in my basement.

How to quiet your impact screen?

Have you backed up the impact screen with anything? Say, a golf net.
It may help to line the wall behind the screen with something that absorbs sound. Eggcrate foam or something like that.
I am using the HQ material which differs somewhat from PR20 Ii am assuming.

I just installed my PAR2PAR HQ2 over WCN archery netting last night. They are against each other hung by slotted angle and bungees and 8inch from back wall. Overall, it came out great, but it is a little loud....but not bad. the impact isn't too bad, but the "rippling" sound after impact is louder than I hoped. I assume this is noise from the interaction between the screen and net. It almost sounds like snapping a bedsheet tight.
I just found this site which is super cheap! I may give it a try. The panels are only 12X12 so easy to staple to the drywall as memory foam toppers are quite heavy.

The HQ is a pretty loud screen. Nothing you can do about it.My Courses:

I have the HQ impact screen backed up with netting and some foam on the back wall. I wouldn't call my screen loud at all.
But I think that the acoustics of the surrounding area have to be taken into consideration as well. My sim room is an all masonry construction which I would expect to be loud by itself but I have lined the two side walls with polyfoam (more as a cushion for errant shots). Also the raised floor with mineral wool underneath and carpet on top also helps to keep the sound down.
For a look at how mine is set up you can see the build here: http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...rotee-sim-room

I didn't think my HQ was loud until I went to my coaches new room. It almost makes no noise. I was shocked. It's a weave screen from the Canadian foresight rep, Aaron. I don't know what it is.My Courses:

I had recently moved my HQ screen to the corner and further back towards the wall (17" or so from wall) - it use to be in the center of the room and was probably 4' from the wall. I also made the screen smaller by using some tarp clips w/bungees.
Now I've noticed the screen sounds like a shotgun when struck by a ball, like mentioned above. Before it was actually fairly quiet. I'm wondering because it's closer to the wall if that isn't causing added sound? I am trying to re-adjust the tension on the screen but it seems to be as tensioned or less tensioned as it was previously when it was quieter.
I ordered a NET to put behind it, but now I'm wondering if I should also put some type of foam either between the screen and netting or on the back wall.
Any thoughts? It was definitely not this loud previously and is relatively uncomfortable to hit on now.

Has anyone actually measured the level in decibels with a decibel meter. I measured the sound of hitting a driver into the screen with an analog decibel meter. I am right at 100 db about 6 feet from the driver and 10 ft from the screen. With the analog meter I cannot separate the sounds from driver impact to screen impact. I just downloaded the app. Decibel 10th for iphone. i am going to try this tonight. It is free and I hope I can distinguish the peaks to determine if the driver or screen is louder. I would also be curious about other setups and their readings. all of our rooms have differering acoustics. Anyone up for comparing numbers? This might be useful or just a complete waste of time.

AFAIK phone microphones do heavy limiting of sounds much over 70 dB so I'm thinking more in the complete waste of time category. You'll get numbers but they won't mean anything. Of course being digital people will attribute meaning to them anyway...
If you just want to tell which is louder, club or screen, then maybe someone listening could tell you?
EDIT1: I just asked my wife...she says my club is way louder than my screen.
EDIT2: But I did some tests...and I don't believe her! LOL I'll explain why in a post below.Last edited by FaultyClubs; 05-04-2016, 08:23 PM.
