  • Has anyone tried the 9oz Supertex Screens?

Anyone tried the 9oz Supertex Screens? They are for sale on ebay and amazon I just cant find a single review. I am wanting a screen with hemmed pockets top and bottom not grommets like these. I am looking for 10ft by 9 ft size and at right at 200$ shipped it seems like a pretty good deal. I am not going to be watching movies on it as I have a dedicated theater also, this is strictly for stoping golf balls and showing a decent simulator image.

has anyone compared the poly version vs the regular supertex as it pertains to sound? I would be willing to sacrifice image quality if the poly is quieter.

I've been wanting to order a Supertex screen however having looked at both hanging design options offered by SG, the issues mentioned on this thread confirm my own concerns. Mainly relating to not enough straps and PVC pipe cracking or bending. I prefer not to have any PVC pipe whether foam insulated or not that balls can hit or detract from a flat looking screen.

I've tried calling SG a couple of times but no answer. Emails get answered, albeit a little vague and brief. The points I'm making and custom requests I think are being misunderstood. The supplier hates using grommets so requests to add dont go down well.

To deal with SG's concerns of grommets pulling over time, what do you guys with experience think about having the screen weight supported by hanging from a 1" pipe at the top by dismantling the frame bracket and sliding the screen open ended pocket/sleeve directly onto the frame pipe? I may have a wall supporting clamp in the top middle, so would mean I have to cut a custom section of material in the middle to refit the clamp. The entire top frame will be concealed by ceiling material which will attach below this line by velcro.

If can get SG to agree to punch in grommets to both sides at 12-16" intervals for attaching with ball bungees under minimal tension to avoid fast ball rebound. Only to keep screen shape and minimise creases. I cant see excessive tension and pulling happening on the sides before the natural life of the screen. Tarpaulin clips can be added at a later date to repair as necessary. Alternatively has anyone had SG agree to add additional side straps to the 3 offered as standard or success doing yourself?

SG recommend the frame is 8-10 inches larger than the screen to allow 4-5 inch clear on all sides. Does Supertex stretch alot? I know SG issue long straps, do the straps have any flex in them? If I was using ball bungees and grommets, I was thinking around 2.5 inches gap which is the gap after 8" ball bungees have been folded over and wrapped round a 1" pipe. Dont want to pull too tight, since balls would rebound like a trampoline.

I definitely don't want a pipe at the bottom which low flying balls would hit. Like other designs, I would slide a custom length bungee rope through the bottom sleeve to keep shape, an extra 1" of material on the floor to prevent balls going under.

Velcro on top and 2 sides sewn in for attaching side drapes and ceiling net/material to conceal all hard surfaces etc. To date SG havent been too receptive to the idea, I'm not sure why.

Thoughts or any experience of these queries are much appreciated.

I think you should consider using tarp clips from the start. If not, you can get your own grommet kit and punch your own. It's not that difficult. The straps that i got from them do not flex. Its just a nylan strap that's adjustable.

Tarp clips are definitely seem a reliable backup option. I watched a youtube video on DIY grommets, would be time consuming for the amount i'd want but handy for ad-hoc or repairs. Thanks for confirming the supplied straps are not flexible.
