  • Has anyone tried the 9oz Supertex Screens?

Anyone tried the 9oz Supertex Screens? They are for sale on ebay and amazon I just cant find a single review. I am wanting a screen with hemmed pockets top and bottom not grommets like these. I am looking for 10ft by 9 ft size and at right at 200$ shipped it seems like a pretty good deal. I am not going to be watching movies on it as I have a dedicated theater also, this is strictly for stoping golf balls and showing a decent simulator image.

I have one that came with the gc2 that I bought locally. It's the 108x96 size . It has hemmed pockets on all four sides. I believe the design is meant to put pvc poles on all four sides, then you can bungee ball or use nylon straps through the slits that secure around the inner poles and attach to your cage. I've only used it a short time but it's held up so far. Right now I don't even have any pvc in the hemmed pockets. I'm still tweaking the right amount of flex to keep the screen tight, but not too much bounce back, my bounce back is minimal and the bottom is loose. I'm still learning what works, but as far as image and hitting a shot into it, no problems yet. I do have a 10x10 net draped behind it as well.

@fourtysixandtwo--how is the image quality? Have you tried watching a movie on it? How does it compare to other screens you may have seen?

I don't have any other screens to compare it to send this one has a few marks that you can see during the day when nothing is turned on.
When I fire everything up in looks great. I haven't watched a blu ray, just HD sports and the golf sim software. My room is well lit and I'm happy with it, darken the room and it really stands out..

@fortysixandtwo--do you have to insert pvc piping in the hemmed area and if so is the pipe required on all 4 sides or just the top and bottom. Also, what is the diameter of the pvc--I think I recall seeing something saying 3/4 inch. Thanks

The hanging model only has openings on the top and bottom. The side loops are sewn shut. The recommended pole is 3/4" EMT (I used 1" EMT because the Home Depot 3/4" non-rigid was saggy) with foam pipe insulation and it comes with 4 extenders with eye bolts. If the height is exactly right, you could put the same in the bottom.

For the record, it's 2" longer than the stated 10' wide by 9' tall. Since it's a little too long, I'm exploring options to lose some of the looseness. Thinking about cutting open the side pockets and hanging more EMT from a cable through the top EMT pole.

I know people have been asking for reviews of it, but I haven't finished my install and have only hit 7-iron into it so far.

I did eventually add the pvc pipe with the foam on all four sides. It is better than before with image tightness and stability. Also, I ended up removing the bottom pipe because it increased bounce back more than I wanted..but you should try it first and figure out if that's how your setup works. And my son hit worm burner that cracked it anyway :-)

              3/4 pvc and insulation used

Some on Amazon apparently have Velcro straps? I would need something like that due to my setup. Sort of a bungee type setup. I named to attach to side pvc's holding my net. Could it work?

I just set this screen up today (108 x 108). Have just hit a few shots, so far works great. There is very less sound and I have been able to adjust the bounce using the straps, so the ball comes back to me. Will try it more tomorrow and post some pictures once its all ready. Here's what I had bought from Home Depot for the pvc and insulation:

                  3/4 in. x 10 ft. PVC Schedule 40 Plain-End Pipe (4)
                  3/4 in. x 6 ft. Foam Pipe Insulation (8) -- didn't need all of the 8

                    Anyone dealing with wrinkles?

I'd like to use the screen for movies as well, but not sure about the picture quality if I have a 1080p projector. Any thoughts on whether HD games/movies are hindered due to the material?

Can anyone tell me how this screen is mounted on the PVC? Is the PVC the frame for the cage or just to hold the screen? Thank you

There are sleeves in the sides of the screen. Each sleeve has some small slits in it. You slide the pvc into the sleeve, then put straps through the slits so that they wrap around the pvc. You will then need an external frame to wrap the straps around. The pvc is really there just to evenly distribute the tension which reduces wrinkles.

The PVC does not do a great job of eliminating the wrinkles. It pulls on the PVC in only three places and they are not directly across from the other side. I've bought the tarp clips to try and eliminate this, just haven't had any time to switch over.

Anyone try the Poly version of the Supertex screen? Thoughts?

Another question...Does anyone have the hanging version with the hemmed sides? How wide is the hemm? I plan to use tarp clips and bungees on top and sides.

Is the hemm too thick too sew through with a standard sewing machine? I use loop velcro along the top and sides to attach my trim material to frame in the picture. I had no trouble sewing on velcro through a double hemm of the Par2Pro HQ, but triple hemm may be tough. Am I better off using the non-hanging version and just treating the side pockets as a hemm and use tarp clips?

                        Thanks.

I received my custom sized supertex screen and had a chance to sew velcro and hang it over the weekend. I was very impressed with the hems and pockets and the overall size was very close to my requested custom dimensions.

I have it hung now, but there are still some wrinkles from the packaging folds that I want to try and get out before finishing up. I may try a low heat iron.

Overall, great product for the price and image is just as good as my previous HQ2.

I never had the HQ material, but it's good to hear from someone who has and that it's comparable.

Did you use the slots or Hans with clips or bungees to your angle irons?? I'm thinking of grabbing this screen but not sure what method to hang it ?

Do you mind me asking who you ordered it through? I want to do one in custom 16 x 9. Just not sure who makes custom ones.

What does great product for the price mean? That implies it is inferior to more expensive ones in some way. Are there areas you think it is inferior to the HQ?

Well, my HQ2 lasted me 10 months and cost $500 for the raw plus a significant amount of my time. The supertex cost 150 made to order. The materials seem comparable and image quality is very similar....probably better on the supertex for me because I mounted it directly over my HQ2.

Time will tell, but it seems that the impact screen is a consumable part. From first impression, I would not say either are inferior to the other.

Yeah, they seem to be consumable alright. When my HQ wears out I'll be looking for a cheaper alternative. So far I haven't noticed anyone who thinks it is a step down from the HQ. Time will tell on durability. Thanks for the info.
