Garage Door Sound Insulation Idea

To the engineers and weekend engineers:

Garage Sim Build: Current Issue - reducing sound outside the garage door, sound can only be heard in my driveway and with a driver sometimes in the street. I plan on practicing after 10PM some nights so I would like to not piss off the neighbor across from me. The garage door is insulated with foam but the sound seems to get through slightly on the outside and between the panel joists.

Plan: put thin theater curtain (NRC: 1.04) strips between the panels to get a tighter seal and use the strips plus acoustic foam on the side of the door.

I understand it will never be sound proof, but if I could get it to be half the volume, I could play at 2AM and not bother anyone.

Does anyone see any issue with this? Is there anything you would recommend instead short of creating a room within a room?

For future users incase they have a similar issue, Theater curtains that hang in front of the garage door are a good option. I am going to use a cable/turnbuckle setup like I used for my net. Then put another one 7 feet from the first one but on the ceiling. When the garage is not being used as a sim room, the bottom of the curtains can clip to the ceiling cable to keep them out of the way when the garage door is in use.

This is interesting. You've found it makes a significant difference? Can you post pictures at some point? I may end up having a similar issue.

If you get a chance, post a pic of your garage door type and how you plan on installing. How are you going around the auto opener garage rail track? How loud does it sound going into the house?

Don't mind the mess, the snow made us use the garage for cars instead of golf plus recycling day got cancelled this week. Green is the curtain, red is the wire right above the door, blue is the wire 7 feet from the door but hanging from the ceiling to keep the droop from hitting the door if the curtain is in the up position.

This worked beautifully. Theater curtains both behind me and behind my impact net really dampened the sound. Just don't put the curtains in front of your net. They are not strong enough to take a driver....

you will notice on the second picture, the curtains are hanging above the garage track. This allows for complete use of the garage if need be, while allowing them to be dropped down to reduce the overall sound in the room while not being in the way of a swing.
