What's your screen size?

I just completed installing a 12.5" by 10" net in my garage (using the aircraft cable method that's been previously discussed in this forum). I'm now in the process of determining the projector/impact screen I need, and I want to be sure I'm not going overboard on size.

What does everyone here suggest is a 'big enough' screen? I want to create a good experience, but don't want to go needless over the with size. And I don't want the image to be too small that the experience suffers.

And if it helps, my throw distance will probably be somewhere around the 7-9 foot range.

I'm building one now and have the room for a 8x10 screen. Ultra Short Throw projector at about 7' Should be big enough.... I hope.

My cage is 13x10x8 which enables a 12x9 screen which is an aspect ratio of 4-3. The hitting area is 8 feet from the screen. The projector is mounted to the top of the cage with a 1 foot extension. I am using a BENQ 822st which has a throw ratio of something like .62 which pretty much fills the projection screen. As to how big is big enough in my case that's the biggest screen I could fit into my garage and still have room for other garage stuff like lawn mowers, garbage cans, tools etc. and a place to park a car into the cage with enough room to easily open either driver or passenger side doors.

That's a great point. In terms of aspect ratio, it seems like designing around a 4:3 aspect ratio makes more sense than anything else, especially a 16:9.

Depends on what size screen you can/want to fit into your simulation setup. 16-9 is a common aspect ratio of HD TV. You might want to check about what aspect ratios your launch monitor/computer/projector is capable of producing.

I think most if not all of the sim software can output any of the common aspect ratios. The main thing to me is that you can get all available pixels on and pretty much filling up the screen. If for instance you had a 16-9 output with a 4-3 size screen either you would have some screen with no picture at the top and/or bottom if you fit exactly the screen width or some of the projection would be off the screen if you filled the screen top to bottom (the 9 part fills the screen top to bottom but the 16 part is partially off the ends)..

16x10. It's big enough.

As has already been mentioned, 'big enough' depends on what you want as an end result. I have a 9 x 12 foot screen, and use a 4:3 projector to fill up the whole screen. That's what I was aiming for since I don't like the look of all the white space on the screen if you project in 16:9 and don't have the width to support an image that goes from floor to ceiling. I'd need a screen that was close to 15 feet wide and don't have the physical space.
