I spoke with Cory at P2P and he informs me that the HQ2 is great for a rear projection setup. Does anyone have experience with rear projection impact screens?

Rear Projection Screen

Only caution I would add about rear projection is that it makes using a net behind the screen a bit problematic.
A net combined with an impact screen saves wear and tear on the impact screen. Projecting from the rear means the net comes into play in any image.
Rear projection also requires quite a bit more physical space than projecting from the front.
The Golf Channel uses a net even with rear projection since a long drive hitter put a ball through their screen.

Aja, I agree about the net. I am going for a really clean look, and I am just going to bite the bullet, so if I wear through screens, I wear through screens. Fortunately I only need 5 ft behind the screen for the UST projector. I can fill the 12' width from about 3.5' away when I mess with the settings. I appreciate the info!

I've seen a couple rear projection setups. Seemed to work pretty well actually. They both had nets in front of the screen so the screen lasts forever. Super quiet too. Rear projection netting isn't nearly as obtrusive as front projection netting.

No quite sure about front projection netting being obtrusive. My net is behind my screen - I don't see it at all.
The fellow that I consulted with about putting holes in impact screens was using the HQ screen and he had put holes in 2 different screens. I also use the HQ screen, but use the back up net just to be sure.

I meant if one tried putting their netting in front of the screen. It looks horrible on a front projection setup but OK with rear projection setup.

The only RP (rear Projection) set up that I have seen is the aforementioned sim on Morning Drive. It looks pretty clean, except the netting does dull the screen a bit, however, there are no shadows cast on the screen. If you put a net in front of a FP (Front projection) the shadowing would be horrible. I will post pics of the RP HQ2 setup when I get it installed.

The whole reason to do a rear projected image is so that you can use back lit material and then place a black net in front of the back lit vinyl. This gives a great image and will never wear out unless a ball goes through the net in front. (which is what happened on the Golf Channel) Once set up the net in front which is a lot cheaper than a hitting screen is all that may need to be replaced. Other than not having shadows on your screen when you pick up balls or get in the way of the projector, there is not much sense in hitting into a back lit hitting screen compared to front projected and hitting in to the screen.
The rear projected, with a net in front of the back lit film, will stop the image from moving like when a ball hits the normal hitting screens. By using a screen that you can hit into and rear project, you will still movement every time your ball hits it and will be worse as you can't back that screen with anything to soften the ball impact. It will wear faster due to nothing to back it up.
Go find a place that makes signs and where they print their signs. Ask if they print back lit's and if they do can they cut a small chunk off their roll. Should come in 54" wide rolls and may cost you $10 for a chunk but then you can project on the back of it and see how the image would look. The only issue would be the 54" is not enough to make a 8 foot tall screen so a seam would be needed and you could only make one invisible if the edges were butted up against each other and use a clear tape to join. Try this also on a sample if you can get one.
If I had a bit more space where I did not need to slide my screen over all the time I would set up a frame to hang the back lit vinyl onto and use that with a black screen in front.

I understand the purpose of RP vs FP. Other advantages of the RP would be that the projector is out of the way and protected. Drawback is reduced lumens and therefore brightness. In this case, I spoke to Cory at P2P and he said his HQ2 T0 impact screen is "beautiful for RP." This screen can take direct hits and does not need a net in front. I am taking him at his word with this. The screen will wear out faster without a net/or baffle, but I am willing to deal with that. 12' x 9' with no seams is gonna work great.
Having the screen "ripple" when struck by a ball is another drawback of any setup with an impact screen. It would be sweet if there was an Oculus Rift solution for golf sim! Microsoft Hololens will be amazing for Sim golf, as long as you don't mind wearing goggles.

I am wondering if you can give us an update and/or pictures of your rear projection golf simulator?
I did a lot of searching but haven't found an impact screen that handles RP and then I came across this forum. I tried searching HQ2 and could not find it, even on Par2Pro website. The only thing I was able to locate was an old YouTube comparison video that P2P had done. That did not cover rear screen but had the HQ2. Any help you could give would be really appreciated.
