Has anyone bought one of these screens from amazon? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016D...+impact+screen

I was wondering what they are similar to?

Curious because i ordered the screen yesterday and now i'm wondering if i should have maybe looked for something else? Or i may just have to sew additional straps onto it, as I definitely want to get it as smooth as possible.
Yes, the 3/4 inch PVC broke inside the frame cut outs because of the ball hitting it. You could try EMT or metal piping. But would definitely want to wrap the pipe with the foam tube wrapping. Even then I think the ball can bounce back at high speeds because the foam padding only takes so much impact. So I removed the piping and sewed straps with grommets on the sides and top. The more straps and grommets you add along the side the better and easier it is to tighten and get wrinkles out of the screen. The best solution would be to have a strap with grommets every 12 inches all around the screen or just sides and top. This screen came standard with slits on all four corners and straps to wrap around a cage/frame to tighten. But I had a hard time getting those to work well and get the wrinkles out. For the price it's definitely a good screen. Think you just need to play with it and try different ways to tighten and hang it. Sew straps with grommets if needed.

I too have this screen and so far so good. It is quiet and the picture quality isnt too far behind my dedicated movie projector screen. I use the pvc 3/4 inch pipe in the sleaves covered with thick foam pipe insulation. I have archery netting behind it which seems to help disipate a lot of the impact. I note that when hit with a ball at very high speed it leaves an indent but the indent seems to disappear soon thereafter with repeated impact from other shots in different areas of the screen. So far I am very happy with it. One thing I will note is that with the pvc pipe framing the screen the screen can't really be moved out of the way without disassembling it which for me is a bit of a pain since the screen is set up in front of shelving and power tools that are hard to get too with the screen effectively blocking access.

liturbo - you say: I have archery netting behind it which seems to help disipate a lot of the impact.

Where do you get the archery netting, and how much is it? When you say dissipate a lot of the impact, does it also dissipate (or deaden) the sound of impact, or only the effect of the impact on the screen? I'm hoping to find something that will be a sound-deadening material behind a screen like this.

Here's the netting I installed in my cage. Depending on the size you build you may need to get a different size. But something like this works well. I have the netting tight and directly behind my impact screen.

Here's some of the things I got to build my simulator setup:

        Turf: http://www.allturfmats.com/product-p/utpq6060.htm
I have two 5x5 foot mats side by side giving me 10x5 foot. Get the 5' X 5' ULTIMATE PAR COMMERCIAL DRIVING RANGE GOLF MAT. Don't get the "Matzilla" or "Monster Tee" turf mats. They are too thick. Also recommend screwing the mats in front two corners into the concrete using special concrete screws so it doesn't slide.

I bought my Impact Screen from:
Spectrum Golf specializes in DIY golf screens, golf enclosures and golf simulators. We can customize a golf screen frame to meet your exact specifications.

        Screens: http://shop.virtual-golf-simulator.c...Screens_c5.htm
I bought the "SUPERTEX 9 OZ".

Projector: Get a "Short Throw" Projector. This is what I bought. But if I bought again I would get the 1080P version. My 720P actually looks really good, but would want 1080P if I did it again.

Nylon Netting: Various sizes. Wrap all sides and top of cage with netting. Have netting inside of frame and I used zip ties to hold the netting (lots of zip ties).

4 Way Canopy fitting 3/4 inch: I bought 4 of these.

2 Way Corner Fitting 3/4 inch: I bought 2 of these.

3 Way Corner Fitting 3/4 inch: I bought 6 of these.

Mini Bungee Cables: For stretching screen against frame.

Brettster my archery netting came with a DuraPro cage that I purchased but the sme type of netting can be purchased at West Coast Netting.

Mike80, I too have the GT760 and agree that while it looks good I wish that it was a 1080p projector. That said, it also projects at 3400 lumens which is very bright and stands up to significant ambient light. Not many projectors are this bright and I do not like hitting golf balls in the dark. I also have a Real Feel Durapro mat which is too thick--it seriously penalizes distance if the club head is just a little below a perfect swing.

liturbo Yes, you are right. This projector is very bright. I can play golf with lights on above me and the image still looks great. I don't want to golf in the dark. So the projector does very well and happy with it. Especially for the price. You say you don't like your thick turf. Get the one I recommend above from AllTurfMats. Best price by far and the quality is great!!!! You can get two 5x5 foot mats for the price of one from other places. It feels like hitting off the fairway and has nice padding below. I used to have the Monster Tee Turf which now I believe they call Matzilla. That turf is way too thick. Also you have to consider putting. If your mat is too thick your putt may not roll straight and your hardware may not read the shot well. Putting with Skytrak and using that mat works perfect! Reads my straight putts.

Mike80 what did you use as a protective case for you projector?

Mike80, thanks for the advice--I also have a DuraPro Mat that is thinner than the DuraPro RealFeel which I felt was probably too forgiving of a bad swing resulting from the bottom of the club bouncing into the ball with no penalty--I will consider your suggestion--hopefully it is in between my two mats in terms of forgiveness. Have you seen any 1080p projectors in person to assess how much better TGC is on those projectors than it is with the GT760? The one complaint I have with the GT760 is it is hard to get a perfect focus with TGC--the projected image on the screen is nowhere as nice as the image I am seeing on my computer screen (not that I expect a 10ft projected image to rival a 1080p 17" computer screen image). That said, I am very very happy with the resolution of the projector for watching movies.

liturbo Have you personally seen the difference between a 1080 projector and yours? I was thinking about pulling the trigger on this model today, but now I'm wondering if i should just look for a 1080 instead. I liked the price of the GT760 over 1080's, i guess my search continues.

Guest, I have not seen TGC projected with a 1080p projector. While I am guessing that the pic would be better in 1080 the brightness of the GT760 and its incredible short throw ratio sold me on the projector. I am very happy with it for now and since it was pretty inexpensive if I find something in the future with higher resolution I will just upgrade. I didnt want a permanent install so the very short throw ratio was needed for floor placement in my garage which didnt allow for a lot if extra distance. I use the projector for movies in my family room and the resolution is very very good. It is clearly high definition. Based on the technical specs it actually projects better than 720p but not quite 1080p.

Mike80 you hit off of that stance mat, or you just stand on it and have a hitting strip of something thicker? That mat seems pretty thin, the grass part only being .5" thick.
I have one of their matzillas and I love it. I just bought a 6x10 of it hoping it would be the same thickness, but it's only the .5" thickness, so I'm going to return it and hopefully get their tee line turf

Mike80, what screen resolution settings are you using with the GT760 and what TGC screen resolution settings are you using to fill the full screen as shown in your pics. Your settings appear to be perfect for getting the full benefit of the large screen.

I am using an HDMI connector and the GT760 menu only shows 16:9 and 16:10--I have tried the TGC interface resolutions of 1280 x 1080, 1600 x 900? and others and none of the settings fill my 9h x 10w screen. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I hit off this mat directly. The half inch thickness is perfect and has nice padding below. I got rid of my thick monster turf, which they now matzilla. It was way to thick. Standing on it was bad. Didn't feel natural. Was to thick and squishy. Also really effected your shot if you catch the thick turf on your down swing. My current mat feels way better and like hitting off a fairway. Standing on it feels natural.

I have the projector set to display 16:10 and have my computer set to 1280x800 and also set that resolution when opening TGC. It fills my screen perfect. But my screen is about 8' height and 10' wide.

Papaduke This is the metal box I purchased and used to protect my projector. It works perfect! I had to take a dremel tool and cut around the edge removing the plastic insert on one of the ends to open it up. Then I spray painted it green. It's metal and protects the projector really well. Here is a link to what I got.

Well, just my luck. Screen came in this weekend, open it up today and there is like a run/snag in the screen. It's about 5' long where there is material missing and then below it looks like a run of extra thread for the same distance. I'm guessing when it was made something happened in the machine. Go figure. Not sure how they missed it though when they were sewing the pockets, it was quite obvious. Waiting for their response. Not happy, going to be down at least another week. This is driving me crazy.
