  • Clips that worked PERFECTLY for hanging my HQ screen.

Dug in to finish my simulator room this weekend. I'd purchased the HQ material from P2P oversize and was all set to sew pockets into the edges and slide 1/2 in conduit into them for attaching with bungee ball cords to my frame. I spotted these clips in the same place at home depot and bought a handful thinking that I'd use them to prototype and then return them.

Problem is, they've work GREAT. We jus simply doubled over the material, slipped these on where they where needed and started playing.

After 500 or so balls, they haven't budged, and I like the idea of being able to re-adjust them for location, or even fold over a bit more material if it stretches. (and we didn't need to sew anything!)

Also, I've left the 2 feet of extra material folded behind on the left edge, and figure that I can bring it into service to shift over the worn spot in the future.

Hope my excitement works out longer term - so much easier than having to commit to a sewn in set of straps, hoping to maximize your screen area - AND allow for stretch.

    Anybody tried these before??

Wow that looks like a great idea! I may have to do this as well. Did you order the raw HQ material from p2p? So no sewing at all was required?

I was leaning that direction as well, the only thing holding me up was not wanting to sew grommets or straps onto the material. These clips look like they solve that problem!

Yes, exactly raw material, bit oversized. Was planning on sewing and using these clips for temporary prototyping. I did put a one inch square white net from ebay directly behind the HQ material. The net takes most of the impact force.

Nice, I like this. how many did you use? How much gap do they leave between screen and frame? Thanks for the post, great idea

4 clips per side - left 8 inches just hanging on the floor at the bottom. There's a photo above of the gap - maybe 2 inches. Have fun!

Yea, that's awesome, I have pretty much the same thing! Very similar clips holding my screen when I set up my sim last summer after my old man suggested it over the sewing haha. Wasn't sure how well they would work but did so perfectly! I also have the raw HQ material. Glad to see someone else had the same results. Mix that with some ball ended bungie cords and you do have great maneuverability (especially with how I have my frame set up with horizontal PVC pipes every 3 or so feet on the sides of the frame for extra support). I can literally just slide the cord back and forth along the PVC and it holds tight where I leave it and can adjust the screen tension super quickly on the fly. I believe I have 3 or 4 clips on the top of he screen and 4 on each side. But can imagine doing more could be even better. Also an added benefit is the clips open up enough that you can slide your net in with the screen for each clip and hold both at the same time (pulling the net part a little tither then the screen though obviously). So based on my experience using them the last like 10 months Ive had no issues at all and still holding perfectly no budging or ripping in the screen at all (looks brand new if I remove the clip), so youre in for a good time with that, great stuff!. Heres the clips I used encase anyone prefers amazon as well

Great post. Thanks for sharing. Question about the HQ P2P material, can it be ironed to get a nice flat edge? If it can, has anyone tried using hem tape to avoid having to learn how to sew?

It's thick enough and flexible enough that just folding it over looks very clean. I don't really think it needs ironing.

In regards to sewing, that's exactly why I used the clips!

I saw this post and used the same clips and folding method. Mine looks and holds great. I also took a few Bobby pins( wife had a million ) and used them in between the clips on the side to hold a clean fold. Turned them white so the blend in.

I've been using similar plastic tarp clips for a couple years now. Attached via bungee cord (hooks on both ends) to a curtain rod track. Everything works great and I've never felt the need to change anything.

I had one clip break from direct hit by the ball. I've hit others without breakage so can't say if it was a faulty clip or just something that can happen. In any case, rare and easily replaced.

I also had the HQ material start to tear where it was attached so I folded duct tape over the edge in that spot and then attached the clip. I suspect this is only an issue if you repeatedly hit very close to an attachment point.

Overall a very simple and reliable solution from my perspective.

Do you double over the HQ material before inserting it into the clips?

Any sign of damage to the screen under the clip? I've already bought mine, just have to get some time to take down the old setup and put on the clips.

I know you asked him but just wanted to interject that my clips I got are still working perfectly over a year later as well. Actually got a hole in the middle of my HQ screen before any damage happened to the areas where the clips are. So they are top notch. Now still debating what to get for the new screen haha
