  • Buying screen for a wooden frame - how close to the edge?

    Hi folks,

A while back I build a simulator in my garage, and have never really been happy with the archery net type screen... and it hangs from my ceiling and always looks misshapen.
In the next few weeks I have a joiner coming to build me a retractable frame for a screen, that will have a pulley mechanism to raise it flat against the roof.
As I'm UK based, getting the Par2Pro screen isn't really possible - but I can get from Protee, and have a custom size.

Imagine the inside edge of my frame is 3m wide and 2m high - what size of screen should I order?
I'm going to get the angle irons from my local hardware store, and attach the screen via bungee cords to ensure its always tight.
How much smaller than the frame should the screen be? Are we talking about 10cm round each edge? Should I have the screen longer than I need so that a few cm's lay on the floor to prevent balls going under - and to help the ball roll back?

    Thanks!!
    Pete

    Hi Pete

I had the similar type archery net screen hung and mine also looked misshapen after a few shots and I was never 100% happy with it , I actually got my new screen for par2pro the HQ screen , it's night and day difference from the old one and looks fantastic.

Cory asked for the room dimensions and helped with sizing of the new screen ,I had the custom screen made so it was Hemmed and straps added to the sides before they shipped.
Overall the straps stick out 3" from the edge of the screen and then I have another 4" ish with bungees to the wooden frame. I have it slightly of the floor and and a roll of carpet along just behind laid along the floor to protect from any low thins

It arrived 10 days earlier than predicted and I had £40 import charges.

That looks really good - thanks for replying.
How much was the screen and shipping if you don't mind saying? I realise it's probably a lot bigger than I'd need, but it'd give me a rough idea of the cost.
I've got a UK company sending me a sample of their 'high quality' projection screen, so I'll see what that's like. I'm still probably a month from needing the screen (getting a new garage floor first and then have to build the frame), so I'm not in any desperate rush.

Any chance you could take a closer photo of how its attached?

My archery screen ended up with a big saggy patch where the ball hit - and never really recovered. The material obviously stretched over time. Is the Par2Pro screen similar material - just much finer knitted with less holes?

        Cheers,
        Pete

I've sent you a PM Pete , I've just got back to work so I can't post any photos of how it's attached ,I'm not back home till early May but if your still wanting some pictures then I'll send some.
My netting sagging was the reason I upgraded
