  • My new ProTee screen

I've been using an HQ2 screen for a couple of years now. I bought it raw and sewed it myself. It's been fine but recently my pro set up a sim and I was shocked with how quiet his was compared to mine. The HQ is really loud. The one thing I noticed when I got the HQ2 was that it didn't really look like a simulator screen. It just looked like some fabric. It never tore and seemed fine.

I replaced it with a ProTee Dual Sided Impact screen from Swingsense. I got it in 14x10. The first thing I noticed was it looked bullet proof and like a professional screen. I took down the old one and put up the new one, tensioned it right and turned on the projector. I was surprised at how bright and crisp the image was. When I hit balls, the balls just die and drop on the floor. There's zero bounce back. It's also really quiet. All and all, I'm happy with the new screen.

Very interesting, I love the durability and picture quality on my HQ but the sound is like a gun shot sometimes. I actually noticed the same thing at a simulator place Ive went to around me, their screens just seemed super quite compared to mine, had a lot of bounce back how they were set up though. The about golf sims the have there still had a very nice picture and when I checked the screen is seemed to be some sore of archery netting with a soft feeling, yet seemingly very durable, sheet screen that I didn't recognize from the research I first did when building my sim. Ill have to take a look at the protee screen you mentioned here. What kind of netting do you have backing it up, just regular?

I have a regular 10x10 hank Haney net behind it plus 2 king size memory foam mattress pads against the wall.

Nice. Was just looking up the protee screen and you cant really tell the difference based on the picture they have on the website, if you get a minute and are able to take a close up picture of the material of your new screen I would love to see it and see how it compares to the HQ. Thanks again for the info on what you've found too, this type of stuff is big for the forums. Impossible for one of us to test everything out but collectively we get great knowledge around here

I do appreciate the effort, I think it just might be tough to take a picture of a white screen like that unless you have a special camera or do it from a side angle to the point where you can basically only see the thickness of it and just hope some of the area around it is clear enough to see haha. Thanks again though, may have to try to get a sample sent out to me and see, You've been around here for a long while and around sim golf for a long while it seems too, that definitely makes you a person with some knowledge that I take a with a little more weight then some others. Especially while im on the search for a way to quiet the screen myself.

Curious with how the durability is with it as well, youll have to try to update us a 4-6 months down the line and see how its still holding up.

This is my Protee screen that is 6 months old. It is ripping and tearing. I always use unscratched balls. Mine is backed up against 3 inch memory foam glued to a tarp. (mostly glued as some has come loose). I was actually planning to get a HQ2 screen to replace this. Maybe I have mine tensioned too tightly. The balls drop within 3 feet of the screen.

When I replace this, would it be better to have the foam touching the back of the HQ2 (or whatever I use) or hanging a few inches behind??

Is it backed up with a net? That seems to be the key to longevity.

Wow dude. That's crazy. I know that there was a guy on another forum blew through his HQ is 4 months. Maybe it's too tight in both cases. For my HQ and ProTee, I'm 7 inches from wall to screen. I've got netting touching the back of my screen and memory foam suspended from the ceiling starting at 4 inches from the screen.

aja , mine has the memory foam touching the back of the Protee screen. A tarp holds the memory foam against the back of the screen. BTW, I ordered a new HQ2 raw material. I am going to try to split the dual layer Protee screen and slide the memory foam inside. Then I will hang this behind the HQ2. Do I need a net also?? Is the net tensioned? What type net is used? I want the next screen to last much longer than this one did.

I suggest you just leave the Protee screen there and put the HQ in front. Others had success that way.

That's some questionable durability right there. The HQ does still look great even after a year of using it a ton. Have just a net a few inches behind it. Wounder if having the protee screen on top or behind the HQ would lessen the sound more. That would be a nice solution for when I eventually get a new screen down the line. If you go that way, let us know how it turns out

Make sure you don't use Titleist Pro V 1 on the impact screens. They tear right through. Most of the sound issues you guys are getting is the screen hung too tautly, too loosely, or whatever is behind it is too taut.

Just a follow up. My HQ2 screen from par2pro is great. Hangs perfectly. I am using the easyklip from homedepot and they are great also.
