  • Sims in smaller rooms

so I have one room in my house that may be large enough for a sim room that I can use. Currently it is a spare room with a TV, xbox, computer (high powered for gaming so I am set for sim software already) and couch. The room measures 13'6" by 14'0". the walls are 8 footers that lead to vaulted ceilings that are just over 10 feet at the peak. Does anyone have a simulator setup in a room that is of similar size or offer advice for me?

My plan is building a frame with 1" EMT and high peak fittings that I bought from canopiesandtarps.com. I figured 10' wide by 8' high to the fittings and then follow the slope of the ceiling up to around 10' and do about 4 feet in depth.

Or am I wasting my time with such a small space? if so I will have to wait until I move to a new home lol

There was a sim installer on here once saying he can install a sim in a 10x12 room so there's your answer. Best bet is to hang some tarps at your dimensions in your garage and swing away.

I actually have more space in this spare room inside. I have a two car garage but I guess the way my house was built I have support beams in it as well. I have a more ideal space in this other room, just thought it would be nice to get some additional ideas for people working in smaller spaces

My suggestion was to make a mock set up in your garage the exact measurement of the Room to see if you're comfortable swinging in that small of a space. I wasn't clear. I figured the room was full now. You can physically swing ok in that room.

I would say it's definitely doable. My first setup had smaller dimensions. You will more than likely need to be offset from center which will give you more height in the backswing. Also, it would only accommodate a R or L handed player. You would need to probably reinforce your hitting screen with a net or archery netting behind it so you can keep it as close to the wall as possible. Plan for 1', and if you're able to get less it will be a bonus. Then you can hit from 6.5' to the screen and have the same distance from ball to back wall. You will want to protect the side wall that you would be facing while swinging, just in case of the dreaded hosel rocket.

My sim is 12' wide x 11' long x 8.5' high. Just enough room for me to swing a driver. But, I'm only 5'-8" and have a compact swing.

Use 1 1/2" angle iron all the way around 8-12" from back wall and you should be fine. Use a net behind your impact screen and just make the screen the entire wall. Enjoy!

Thanks for everyones input, I think the picture I attached here is what I am going to try to do. Thats just a canopy picture I found online and wrote in my own dimensions, Obviously not drawn to scale. The peak will be 10 feet which should give me plenty of room to swing if I stand in the center. If/when I get this up and running I will update with pictures

Not trying to rain on your parade but the high point in any golfer's swing is not directly above them. It is actually behind them. To avoid contact with the ceiling, if it is highest in the center of the room, you may find yourself teeing up pretty close to the wall.

Have a look at some golf swings looking down range. You'll see what I mean.

My scratched up ceiling confirms @aja's high point. It is a couple feet behind you as you stand at address.

I have enough room to stand slightly off centered, and swing freely. should not be an issue. I think I have decided to just set up outdoors for the time being with WGT on my ipad/skytrak. If I use it as much as I anticipate I will make the moves to set it up indoors

I have officially gotten the go ahead from my wife to take over her office and relocate the office to the ground floor of the home. So I have a few questions:
                    • My cage will be custom built by myself with 1" emt conduit. I will be getting a custom net from west coast netting. My only questions with this is how do I attach the net in a fashion that I don't need to worry about a ball ricocheting off the emt and back at me or a guest?
                      • Is it best to get the net slightly smaller than the cage and attach with bungee or long Velcro straps?
                      • Or maybe just leave the net around the outside of the emt and put on padding around it?
                      • Any pictures people have of how they are connected to their frames would be great to see as I am new to this
                        • I am writing the in bold because mentally its what I am having the most difficulty visualizing
Any other advice you guys with experience have would be great. As the process progresses I plan to update with pictures so maybe people with a room like mine can see it is doable

I'd suggest looking through the posts in this very same topic http://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum/...own/enclosures I'm sure you'll find the answer there.

I went through all 17 pages and couldn't find anything that directly answered my question. I always look before I post. I also did a search for "netting" and searched 244 results that did not answer my question. Perhaps I missed it, sorry if that is the case
