  • EMT Padding

I am using 1" EMT pipe for my 10' x 10' x 10' cage. What is the best way to prevent ball rockets coming back at me when the EMT around the screen is hit? Pipe insulation does nothing. Memory foam will work? Other ideas?

Were you ever able to find an answer to this question? I am having the same problem,. I am terrified to hit a wedge shot into my screen. Ive almost gotten killed a number of times with the ball flying back at me

Can you create a baffle in front of the emt? I have used the mesh tarp from Harbor Freight to create mine.

How would you create the baffle? Right now I used the shot defender from allsportsystems. The problem I have is that the tarp material that they sent me sags in the middle. I assume this is because the tension wire they gave me cannot get tight enough to support the weight of the tarp. If i used a different tension wire do you think that could support the weight of the material so that there is no sag in the middle? Or what about some type of memory foam tied to the met pole?

Dont they give you wire rope with a turnbuckle? You should be able to tighten that down so tight you could play guitar on it.

I made my own shot-defender with a 1/8" wire rope and turnbuckle from home depot. Its tight enough that there is no sag at all. It sits 6 inches in front of the screen. I have a fabric sleeve filled with pipe insulation that hangs down from it about 8 inches. So its covering a little bit of the screen (it doubles as screen trim). I have hit it a few times with my wedges, and someone else skyed a driver up there. So far it was worked flawlessly. Balls hit it and drop down.

Thanks Shardak...I did get the wire rope with the shot defender. It’s more of a jump rope type material. I went to Home Depot today and purchased what you recommended. It may just be that I don’t have a clue what I am doing and can’t tighten it enough....lol. I called up a friend who is going to help me tomorrow to set it up and hopefully get it nice and tight so I can’t hit hat top pole anymore

What I did was put up netting before I put up the screen. I have 1" emt on the front, top and sides. One can tie the netting to the 1" emt with small rope. Towards the front of the enclosure, pull the netting tight on the sides and the top such that the net sets away from the 1" emt by a couple of inches or so. On the bottom, I use a wedge of tough foam rubber to prevent bounce back. The screen will set in front of the netting and will be slightly narrower. Seems to work well for me.

Try using Pool Noodles. There available in 54” lengths and when you get them you can take a razor knife and simply slice them length wise and then snap around your conduit. EBay has various colors available. The pool noodles are designed to fit 3/4” piping but they will fit over the 1”” as well. I also ordered 12” cable ties the same color as the padding for supports. They are more durable than pipe insulation.
