  • HQ2 Screen & Pro V1

Just got done with my first simulator build, and my screens and nets are schedule to arrive next Tuesday. With my shipping confirmation from Par2Pro I received a the attached HQ2 Impact Screen Guidelines. Under usage it states “Do not use Pro V1 golf balls as we have found these to reduce screen life significantly”. The problem is I have already purchased 12 doz new Pro V1x “Practice” balls for use with my simulator. I have read all of the posts here in the screen section and have found these couple items of wisdom as it regards to balls and screen quality/longevity:
    1. Use new balls
    2. Keep them clean
    3. Keep clubs clean
    4. Any logo on balls can transfer black marking to screen (please confirm?)
    5. If a ball gets a cut or rough spot remove from use
    6. Full wedge shots can damage balls and screen quickly
    My questions are:
    1. I assume the Pro V1 is an issue because of its soft shell being susceptible to cuts and scuffs?
    2. Why wouldn’t other or all soft balls be limited by Par2Pros recommendation?
    3. Does the fact that I have Pro V1x’s make a difference, so I can use them?
    4. Will I have issues with the Titlist black logo transfer to the screen?
    5. I am using a FlightScope Xi Tour and figured for accurate ball speeds and compression I should use a ball better than a range ball to get more accurate results, is this a correct assumption?
    6. If I need to get different balls what do you recommend for a quality alternative?
I golf with regular Pro V1 but the Pro V1x all came with the practice stamp since you are unable to specify “x” or not when you order. All is not lost since the “Practice” stamped balls are legal for use from what I have read.

Just my opinion and I'm sure others will elaborate, but I think some of the concerns are overblown. For a normal user of an HQ2 screen I can't imagine ruining the screen in any short period of time. I would use the ProV1's, maybe if you play 20 rounds a day, or using a screen at a trade show over and over it could be a problem. Shrug.

The ProV is a great ball because it spins on short game shots. You get that from a soft cover. Other balls are the same way. The only way to have a ball that spins a lot is to have a soft cover, more or less. So a similar premium urethane cover ball will still "shred" the screen.

You can use a TopFlite, it'll spin less, but then you also won't be reflecting your IRL game with a 1 piece surlyn cover ball vs ProV.

So it's a trade off. I luckily don't play my sim during the summer, and only about 2 hrs a week during the winter...so I never worry about it.

I think it is the spin. The higher the spin the more stress on the screen. Especially an issue with wedges. Other high spinning balls would be the same.

Don't use any ball with scuffs and cuts as that is bad in any case.

The actual logos on the ball won't come off onto the screen unless you drew them yourself with a marker or something. And I wouldn't worry about using prov1s. I also bought 100+ prov1x balls and have been using them for the last year and haven't seen any wear on my hq screen at all from them. I just switch out balls after the logo starts fading from using it a ton and will obviously switch it if it had a giant scuff in it. But zero problem so far after a year of using those balls.

They have for me - ProV1x and Snell MTB. I'm seeing if making sure I don't contact the logo with the club will help.

I used all kinds of balls to learn about their differences. I usually have 10-15 balls around to spread out the shots, then swap out a few of them every few weeks to keep the lot fresh. HQ2 is quite durable. No worries.

I've hit thousands of PROV1 balls into my HQ2 screen. No problems. Most of my friends are north of 170 ball speed. I can get up to 11,000 rpm. I'm curious what this is about. Someone else came on here saying the same thing. I asked why. Never got a reply.

Wow, really, that's annoying, haven't noticed that yet at least, but I'll keep an eye out for it now. I do have a bunch of pro v1x balls with some having random company logos as I got them used but practically new and haven't noticed any printed logos coming off on the screen yet, only a handmade marker mark a couple of times by my own stupid error (which I recommend everyone to avoid at all costs, cleaned it a ton and still couldn't get it all the way out)

I only use Prov1 and Prov1x...why? They are the only back that I don't crack. I have cracked Bridgestones, Nike and others. I am more concerned about the crack of a ball damaging my screen.

I agree on the non cracking, ive been using the same two pro v's forever, yet i crack every other type of ball i've played with so far in a short amount of time. Soft compression balls seem to be the easiest to crack.
