Hey guys I'm in the middle of designing my sim room and have a question about the enclosure. Would 1 or 2 inch polystyrene sheets with carpet tiles attached to them slow the ball down from warp speed on a miss hit shot or wedge shot.

Polystyrene will work, for a while. Problem is it is a hard material not designed to rebound. You will basically be leaving a dent every time you hit it. Over time... not much of it will be left.
The foam you need to use, if you can find it, is polyurethane foam. It is softer and rebounds when struck. It is used in some sports equipment but a supplier may not be that easy to locate. I used POF (Polyurethane foam) slabs in my set-up to protect the walls from errant shots.
Some also use heavy blackout curtains which apparently works as well. Carpet tile on plywood could also work.
Generally errant shots off to the sides will not be bouncing straight back at you so there is a little leeway in terms of how "soft" the wall protection needs to be.

It was a significant amount of work and maybe in retrospect a bit of overkill in terms of protecting the walls from errant shots. The real benefit though is in cutting down on noise. The POF really absorbs sound so you get almost a theater quiet effect.Last edited by aja; 07-21-2016, 03:04 PM.
