Building home advice on dimensions and anything else someone learned doing this.

So we are designing a home build. Wife fully committed to a dedicated golf sim room in the basement of the build. I have read this site for years with some contribution. I currently have a skytrak but will likely upgrade to GC2 with a monitor with the build including a way to have projector and hitting screen in the future. If the build is nearing completion and we have money left I will get it all.

My main question is what room dimensions should be for this room. I think I can have whatever I want put in. We are doing 11-12 foot ceiling so height is fine for that area but wondered what others felt the dimensions otherwise should be. I have read threads throughout here but of course could have missed some very helpful posts due to volume. I am thinking something like 14x14 at least but am writing for advice from others who have done it. As I said...this is in advance enough for me to change dimensions and designs as needed. Thanks in advance.

If anyone thinks of a better option than GC2 let me know but I am pretty in love with their stuff. I have had a lot of problems with shorter shots getting read on the skytrak as well as putting so that is the main reason for changing GC2.

If you are going GC2, I assume that only right (or left) handed people would be playing, as opposed to both. If that is the case, 14 feet wide sounds good. I would consider making it deeper though so you could add room for seating in the back. If you have an awesome golf simulator in your house, it won't be long before friends want to come over and play with you!

One thing to consider since you are building a new home is to make sure the wiring is all run before you drywall. You will want an HDMI cable and power run to the ceiling for a projector, and ethernet, power, the other end of the HDMI wherever you put the computer. I would also consider wiring in surround sound so you have the option of using the space as a home theater as well. All that stuff is way easier to do while the house is being built than after the fact.

I would talk to your contractor and ask him but 14' deep I think you want more. My sim room is 18' deep and wish it was 20. 14' wide is good, but why not make it 15' since par2pro and other places sell turf carpet in 15' lengths. My room is 13' but went with 12' since I did not want to throw away so much. I will center it so only have 6" on each side showing the wooden floor.

Good luck with the room the room and the suggestion for pre-wire is genius. I am not sure if the GC2 is worth the extra cash but never used one - but
it does have more cameras.

Sunless it's open in the back, 14 feet isn't deep enough.
