First off Hello to Everyone on the Forum!
My name is Mario and I'm a golf addict :-p
I have been lurking this website and Ottawa golf for the passed 3 years in hopes of owning a sim one day - never really believed it possible!
The day has finally come!!
Apologies regarding my writing style, spelling and thought process/ organisation
I have no options of installing the sim at home so Its going in the ware house area of my office (many late nights at work to follow).
I'm from Toronto so If any guys in the area can chime in as to where they purchased materials would be awesome.
I have made my mind up on a few items and still have questions about a few items.
I purchased a Skytrak that should be here tomorrow! and will be running tgc with it.
Is wireless a big issues or should I run a 60 ft lan cable to my sim room, or purchase a crazy router - I will be running an Asus ROG GL502VM - i7 2.6 ghz 16gb ram, NVidia gtx 1060 6 gb ram - I take it I should be able to run the game at max everything?? - Is it ok because its a laptop?? - Baught a laptop because it will also function as my work computer.
I also ordered the BenQ HT2150ST which I will be running at 4:3 aspect ratio to perfectly fill the screen - will this technically be running at 720p because of the aspect ratio? So is it not worth returning and getting a cheaper projector. Also this will be mounted at about 9'6 AFF at about 12' from the screen - is that ok or should I get something that's directly above the golfer?
I'm planning on building a moveable enclosure that will have a finished screen size of 12' x 9' x 3' deep out of welded steel tubing 1.5x1.5 - with either the supertex material or carls golf because they are cheap and decent(opinions)
I will be installing 1.5" memory foam behind the screen (or a few layers of carpet underpad if that works??). Because I would like the screen tight - Will it prevent bounce back with a tight screen and still not damage the screen?
I would like to sandwich it in a finished material from behind(don't know what???) - I would also sandwich netting on the sides and top with this same material - preferably black material that comes in big sizes, some kind of indestructible felt or whatever(whats it called and where can I find it)
I will be finishing the inner corners of the screen with triangular shaped foam type material used to ensure gutters don't get blocked and will wrap that in the same black finished material as above. (recommendations please)
For the sim floor I will be building a 2x6/plywood raised floor that is also movable that's approx. 12' X13' with 2 cut outs at both sides of the matt approx. 2'x4'. I purchased rymar putting surface (opinions) and will be putting carpet underpad under it to soften balls that bounce back(does that work) - I have a matt that was given to me which is awesome as you can stick tees into it and I like the feel. I know what to do to level both surfaces (the matt is 5'X5'). I will be centering the matt due to space constraints and will setup for right and left play. I plan on positioning the laser 6" from the edge of the matt on both sides and will be installing a cup 8' down the target line for both righty and lefty. The golfer will only have 8' from ball to wall in backswing (is that ok?)
How far is the laser dot in front and behind the skytrak? (need to know because my subfloor has to be short on 2 sides) - I will fabricate a leveled steel plate or piece of wood screwed to the subfloor made to except the skytrak so that its perfectly parallel with both target lines - so lefty righty play is as painless as possible - I will drill holes in it to accept the legs of the protective case.
