Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Tommy, judging by previous orders and quantities, it is unlikely to get to you on the next run. This is dependent on the amount DB can get from the mill.

Timing - DB likes to wait to have the latest batch fully tested and reviewed by members before making any tweaks or adjustments with the mill on the following run.If I were to guess a ballpark time, May/June.

jneils87 is correct. It’s great to hear as much feedback as possible before knitting more just to make sure we are on the right track. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve let me know. Otherwise will get something going soon and advise possible eta..likely April.

Another question I saw was whether or not you could get Velcro sewn on the screens. I recommended a finisher that can finish the screen for you and add Velcro per your request.

FabriTac Glue and Velcro rolls from Amazon worked wonderful for me and I know it'll be crazy cheaper than sending that screen to a finisher. Just a thought

I probably won't be putting my screen up until next year unless my original gets a hole in it (or I can't wait that long). I decided to have a look at the new screen and I drapped it over my existing screen to have a look. I actually left a portion of my existing screen exposed on one side to compare the picture. My existing screen is a PR-100 and seems to be in good condition going on year 3 now and has a great picture. The picture of this new screen seems to be the same as the PR-100 or slightly under but only slightly. I thought I had the wrong side but I didn't. The material is quite different though. The mill cut seems softer and a bit thicker then PR100. I hope softer does not mean it will wear more. I believe that it will make it quieter and less bounce back but I am just speculating at this point. I am going to reconfigure my sim (set up for 4:3 ratio) to accecpt a 16:10 aspect ratio so I will send the screen out next month to have velco and loops installed. I probably won't be able to wait until next year as I am looking forward to seeing a wider view in the sim. Hope to hear from everyone else when they get theirs up. Thanks again to Daniel for this. It's amazing what he is doing. It really is.

Full disclosure, I am only two months in to the simulator world and do not have any other screen to compare to.

I have been very happy with this screen. It was thicker than I expected. The picture is crisp and my wife can’t wait to use it as a home theater. Shots are quiet and since I don’t have a whole lot of tension, drop almost straight down.

Wear is hard to say right now with only a few hundred shots in it, and my game isn’t consistent enough to hit the same spot right now. No indications that it will be an issue in the future.

I'm also hoping to hang mine this weekend and provide some feedback. I'll have some friends over and we should be using it a lot over the winter. I'm most curious about how durable the material will be to be honest !! On a side note, just want to say that Daniel was very professional in the whole process. Design Question: For those that have the new screens / previous screens, how far do you have them off the wall behind?

We are designing our new house (build to start in 1-2 months) and the basement will have a theater room / golf sim combo (9'2" ceiling height - enough for me and friends only 5'10" tall). I am having the builder install built ins on either side of the screen area about 2 feet deep. The sides of the screen will mount to the built ins and be covered with carpet & drapes, as will the top and bottom while in use as a theater. Ideally, I would be able to mount the screen 12" off the back wall, however, that feels tight. If you have any guidance based on the previous product I would greatly appreciate it.

Mine has about 9 or 10 inches and a concrete wall behind. If you are securing the sides I think 12 is plenty. Mine is not secured anywhere but the top and woods and long irons definitely hit the back wall and came back and damaged a few things. I’ve since hung an old comforter behind/with it and it stops it no problem now.
