Buy Impact Screen Fabric Directly from Mill

As a cost sensitive person attempting to build a high quality simulator, I realized purchasing the correct impact screen is critical to both the simulator's overall performance and it's price tag. It should be affordable, durable, seamless, impact resistant, have minimal bounce back, low noise, and display HD quality images.

West Coast Netting, Par2Pro, Foresight, Carl's Place and others listed in various forum threads all sell screens but none actually manufacture them. Buying second hand increases cost and my goal to buy the highest quality materials at the best possible price can only be accomplished by purchasing direct from the mill that manufacturers the fabric.

After plenty of research I found the mill that's manufacturing the impact screen fabric for Foresight, Carl's Place and others. The mills highest quality impact screen fabric is a heavyweight knit polyester sold only in 120 inch x 40 yard rolls. The raw material costs $56/yard without shipping.

40 yards is clearly too much material for my simulator so I'm looking to get a group of us on the forum to split a roll.

Please advise any interest or questions.

I found USPS to be the least expensive but UPS was within $5-$10 so I might go with them as the delivery date was one day quicker. All-in-all you're looking at around $35-$40 give or take. I assume you need to set up an online account and then you can prepay the label, print it to a PDF and then send it to Daniel at imports@dekalbfarmersmarket.com.

Any Canadians not being charged duties when coming into Canada? If so what did you claim it as? Cheers

My past experience is that UPS and FedEx will always charge duties, and that USPS is 50/50. At the moment I'm struggling to find an option that I can actually complete with a Canadian address and Canadian credit card. Did you find a solution? If so, can I ask what the quoted cost ended up being?

My solution is not a solution but a work-around... I got my US cousin to create/pay for a USPS shipping label then paid him back via paypal. With respect to shipping duties & customs, I can echo what GoldenSim wrote. USPS often slips through with no import fees, but the couriers will always always ding you. If you live near the border like I do (I'm in Vancouver), ship it to one of those US receiving depots on the US side then go pick it up and bring it back yourself. They'll rarely charge you imports at the border if it's not too expensive.
