My impact screen's instructions say to take a 3/4" metal pole and run it through the stitching at the bottom of the screen. It also said to get this foam pipe insulation to go over the pipe. First I just did the pipe and my friends almost got killed w/the bounce back from the pipe on missed shots. With the foam around the pipe it's better - but it's still dangerous. Has anyone run into this issue? I'm thinking of replacing the metal with pvc - but not sure if the pvc would hold up to a direct hit and not sure if it still wouldn't bounce back. The purpose of the pipe at the bottom of the screen is to stretch it out by letting it hang loose. Not sure pvc would have enough weight to accomplish that.

I had one of them in my previous setup.
I hit the metal pipe, and the ball rifled back at me. Then I wrapped it in pipe insulation, and the next direct hit came back even faster!!
I then built a ramp in front of the screen, so that any low ball flew up it and hit above the pipe.
The ramp worked well... and gave me a nice channel that the balls dropped into. It meant I could use multiple balls and not worry about hitting one of the others!

I did the same as p3eps did. I have a steel angle at the bottom ( you don't really need anything) and had the same dilemma. So when I put the flooring in, I built a ramp with thin plywood that rests on the angle. This not only prevents me hitting the steel but covers the eyelets. Works well.Comment

I haven't really noticed a need for anything going through the bottom of the screen. I have it bungied on both sides at the very bottom.Comment

Boo Radley is on the mark - use bungee rope in that bottom pocket (tied down on left & right with marine flat eyelets). I used 1/4" bungee but it was not strong enough - might want to go slightly thicker so you can really torque it down. Without the bungee, my screen wants to creep up just enough that you can see under the screen. Not the case with the bungee installed - keep all four sides very tight. I've also tried PVC pipe - did not take the impact - broke into pieces. Hope this helps!Comment
