  • Another fold up garage build

Just starting out a fold up garage build. My vision is something like a big Murphy bed where the platform can fold up against the wall so I can regain garage space when needed.
My garage is a standard 2 car width but is also 2 cars deep (4 car tandem), so it'll be left down the majority of the time. Just wanted some flexibility if I needed the space for something else.
Picked up a used Protee from a member here added a putting sensor direct from Protee.
Finished building a PC (will add details later).
Got a Carl's premium screen and WCN archery net, there still boxed up till I'm ready for them.
I'm building the platform now. The main part that folds down is 12' wide by just over 9' deep and it'll hinge to another part that's 2' deep by 12' wide. Planning to have the screen and net about 12" from wall.
Here's a couple pics of the platform progress. Ran out of construction adhesive, so done for tonight!!

Thanks to everybody on here, I've gotten great ideas from all of you!

Sounds exactly like my build. I wasn't happy with any of the hinge options so currently just leaving the two pieces of my platform unattached. I'll be interested to see your solution. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm second guessing what I bought. They may not be heavy enough. The platform will be 450-500 lbs once done. I just got some big hinges at HD, but will probably keep an eye out for something bigger just in case.
Got a hoist from harbor freight to tilt it up and down, but still concerned about the overall weight on the hinges.

Ok, done with all the framing and top plywood for the base.

Picked up 6 of these 8" heavy duty gate hinges. I think these will be more than sufficient to carry the weight. Using 6 of them spaced about every 23".

Here's the openings for sensors. Obviously the smaller opening is for the putting sensor and larger one is for hitting sensor matt.
The opening at the very back is where I'm going to put an arcade button control panel. Haven't figured out layout for that just yet.

Here's a couple quick pics of the PC I built. I'll find my parts list and post that too, but it's pretty standard stuff.

Nice work! I have been contemplating a better garage build out and I like the idea of the fold up hitting area. Looking forward to seeing how you mobilize the platform up and down.

EDIT: Looking at your pictures, are you going to secure the 2' base platform to the concrete to keep it from leaning or falling back open?

Was planning to take off the baseboard, and notch the corner of a 2x6 so it fits over the lip of the concrete curb. Then lag screw the 2x6 into the wall so that it "pinches" the platform against the floor. Probably put some angle brackets to the platform too.

It's been crazy hot this last week so I haven't been too motivated to make progress. Got some done today though.
Put up the first pieces of the two side panels.

Also attached a length of 2x4 and 2x6 to the wall to prevent the back of the fixed base from lifting up.

Next will be to align the fold down piece to the fixed base, layout and mount the hinges. Then I can get working on the pulleys and hoist.

Finished up the top plywood on the side panels.

Also routed out for the hinges and got them mounted.

Next up will be to buy the pulleys and wire rope so I can set up the hoist.

Got the pulleys and hoist installed today.

Same configuration is mirrored on each side.
The cable from each side will come together at these pulleys in the middle and then drop down to the hoist.

Here's a shot of the hoist secured to the fixed portion of the base.

Redid the hoist mount because I decided I wasn't overly comfortable with plywood there.
Got some 1/4" steel plate and made up a new one.

Used a Forsner bit to countersink the plywood for the bolt heads.

Lifted up the platform to test things out.
                        Worked great.

Have it secured by safety chains for now. While I figure out what to do next.

Did a little bit of work today. Cut and assembled the control panel. I wanted to be able to use a club to press the buttons from the address position to reduce the need to go back to the keyboard.

Here's my thought on buttons and rough layout. I'd love input from anyone on any changes to what buttons I should be including.

Here's a shot of the overall shape. Top section of buttons will be on the slanted portion. The lower section will be on the flat portion below it.

Drilled a hole in the back to run all the cables out so they can go over to the PC.

You sure that slanted part won't get hit with a club? People can make some crazy swings.

Wouldn't say I'm sure, but I took about 30 swings today and didn't come close. May rework it some to make it lower though.

I was thinking more about the drunk friend that makes a bad swing with the driver. My brother had an in-law break two of his clubs hitting way behind the ball on his sim. It was a good excuse to upgrade his driver though.
