  • Putting Surface Gym Floor Transition

    Hey Guys

I'm looking for any insight or input you may have regarding matching flooring heights.

I am 99% sure that I am going to order NP50 putting turf for my sim area, which is 1/2" thick from the rubber underlay to the top of the turf (uncrushed).

This will meet up with 8mm (about 5/16") gym flooring at one end of the simulator area.

Initially I was going to raise the gym flooring to be 1/2" high, but it occurred to me that treading on the putting surface "crushes" it a small amount, so if the more solid gym flooring is raised to the same height, I will likely have a tripping hazard when walking from the turf onto the gym floor.

Has anyone found a solution to this? Has anyone use transition strips? Or is it best to just have the gym flooring slightly lower than the turf? Any thoughts or experience greatly appreciated

    Thanks, Dave

I don't think you'll notice less than 1/4" of difference in the floor heights. I'd probably rough things in without doing any raising and see how it does for a few days. If you have issues then look into raising the height of the gym floor material.

I have a similar thing coming up but my gym floor material is 3/4" and my putting turf is around 1/2". I think having the transition will be fine.

Thanks for your comment. I'm thinking the same. Probably a good idea to not glue the gym floor down until I've tried it for a few days. Thanks again

I agree and also have similar issue. But when I put sample turn np 50 against sample flooring did not appear to be noticeable or a big deal at all.

GoldenSim what gym flooring are you going with?

Hi Kevin - I just picked up the gym flooring. It's a 3/8" rubber matting on a 4' wide roll. One of my golfing buddies owns a few hotels and has gyms in them. He was doing some upgrades and grabbed me some flooring at the same time, so I'm not sure of the make or model, but it seems pretty good. Having got it, and the sample of the NP50, I think the difference will be minimal and will be handled by the thickness of the "turf". I don't get the turf for a few weeks, but I'll let you know how it goes
