  • Question about CCE mats

I've seen a ton of comments on here about the harshness of CCE mats and how they cause joint pain. I expect to only be using my simulator 2-3 days per week tops (full time job, side hustle, 2 kids, honey-do lists, etc.) Are most of the people experiencing joint pain hitting on their CCE mats 5-6 days per week? Is it possible I might be spared from the physical toll if I'm only out there once every few days?

I have yet to decide on a mat yet and the CCE strips for under $40 are appealing since a strip of fiberbuilt is going to cost several times that amount. Just wondering if the wear and tear on the CCE's is due mostly to heavy use and if I might be spared if I'm only using it sparingly.

I don't know that answer. All I can say is cce is a great material and will have you striking the back purely but the material is far more resistant than taking a divot outdoors. It will harm your body guaranteed and im not sure if it's the 100th hit or 1000th or 10000 strike that is going to do it to you. I personally would never use it again. Il bet if you go to classified section and ask for a strip somebody would have one for you. Good riddance I say!
    tendonitis sucks

It is considerably more comparing it to the CCE strip, but the benefit seriously outweighs the cost, at least for me. I wouldn't use it again either.

I too would never go back to a CCE strip. I have the old one collecting dust. $40 to blow up your joints, $250 or so to have a 3' x 1' better hitting surface and not suffer. Jeez, my hands/arms starting hurting just thinking about the CCE.

trhuke and wbond ---- were you using the CCE a lot? I know their reputation. I'm just wondering if the wear and tear is mostly just present in the heavy users (5-6 days per week). Is there anyone who uses it just a couple days per week who is fine or do those light users also experience the same pain?

I was hitting a ton of balls on it. I'm sure hitting less would have lessened the impact on the arms but it trashed me quite quickly.

It's far too dependent upon the individual. Some may be more prone to issues than others and some have zero problems with the CCE. You can either spend the the 40 and if it works for you great, if not you'll end up spending more later and you'd be out $40, which in the simulator world is nothing.

That last line is very true. If there's one thing I've learned so far in this journey it's that money burns up quickly in this hobby haha.

Count me in the never again for Cce camp. Even good strikes it decelerate the club too quickly. It took 6 months before it took its toll on me and I was one of those that assumed any mat would do it......until I used divot action and fiberbuilt. Currently using fiberbuilt for the durability.

I've had a CCE 5x5 mat for about 5 years with no problems. It does kill the clubhead speed if you hit behind the ball which I feel is great for practicing. My best guess is if the people who complain about it would go to a grass range and hit as many balls as they do on the mat they would have similar joint problems.

In my case I have had joint problems when I would hit couple hundred range balls a day and used steel iron shafts. Since I have been using the mat indoors along with graphite iron shafts no problems. I don't however hit hundreds of balls a day, maybe just play a simulated round or hit 5 balls or so per club as I go through the bag.

That is so not true it actually upsets the wizard and the wizard has thick skin. The cce slows the club down tremendously after a pured strike and isn't even remotely comparable to an outdoors divot. Tendinitis is no joke. The wizard couldn't even pick up a damn beer #%$$@#!
Tendinitis doesn't go away over night either and back pain to boot.
Wizard can hit all day outdoors or on fiberbuilt and thank God no fn tendinitis.
Sh#t Wizard would rather spend 500 on a fiberbuilt over getting a free strip of cce. I would happily send you my cce if I wasnt using it as my putting strip to the screen.

I have a hunch that how one strikes the ball may make a huge difference on how CCE effects them. I hit down and through my irons and it was very hard on me. For someone who sweeps the ball off the turf it might not be as painful. My $.02.

Trhuke your correct. If you thin all your shots you will have zero issues with cce but if you take a divot after your strike you will feel more resistance than an outdoor divot...

Just piling on. I had to take months off of golf from the harshness of the CCE. I switched to fiberbuilt and I have no issues

Based on this post the Wizard should curtail his intake of adult beverages. Unless you are taking huge divots outdoors a CCE mat is just fine. BTW I had tendonitis long ago, well before golf simulators even existed. The fix was simple a. switched to graphite iron shafts and b. adopted a modern swing angle of attack which doesn't take deep divots.

Wizard did curtail his adult beverage intake when he couldn't lift a beverage from CCE tendinitis. Wizard really doesn't want undue harm to occur to another golfer. He is very thankful that tendinitis hasn't returned with the fiberbuilt hitting strip nor has wizard ever had tendinitis in 43 years of outdoor playing. Wizard just told me he only uses graphite in his woods and likes his old school angle of attack

I have been been using the CCE mat for 4 years no issues. But the entire mat is not on a concrete floor but on a wood floor.

I’d start feeling the effects of the CCE after one long session. Everyone is different, but one thing is certain, CCE puts a substantial amount of strain on your soft tissue. Some people have much more resilient bodies, so you’ll always get a few people that say they’ve used them for years without issue. That isn’t the norm.

The mat isn’t one place to try to save money. Invest in something that will keep you healthy, or take the risk that 2 days a week will be fine for you. If you are in the Pa/no/de area I will give you a CCE strip for cheap.
