  • Help Wanted: What type of mat is this?

I am in the process of building out my first hitting bay in my basement which has slowly turned more into building a simulator. Happened to find a local indoor golf facility unloading some mats at a very reasonable price, so I picked up two for a 9'x4' surface with the hitting strip being virtually brand new.

Is anyone able to tell me identify what brand these are, most importantly the hitting strip? The previous owner told me they were Fiberbuilt, but I'm pretty confident that they are not. I'm fearful the hitting strip is the dreaded CCE that everyone seems to say causes tendonitis. I've had a run with tennis elbow in the past and would prefer to avoid that again. I believe he said he ordered through vendor - aboutgolf.com.

If the hitting strip is CCE, does anyone know if it can be replaced + fit well with a Fiberbuilt 1'x4' strip? Not as concerned about the two side mats.

Thanks for your help in advance! Happy to provide additional photos if necessary.

Hard to tell but it looks like cce
can you get a standard to to stay in it
can you separate the fiber with your fingers
    is it very very dense
is there any give in it

I was able to get a tee to stay in without any issue - will support a ball on top of it as well. Not much give to the mat when you hit it.

I am a bit of a digger and have found it hard to find the center of the club face unless I pinch it.

        Cce is very tight
that close up doesn’t look tight enough to be cce

if you can push the fibers even a bit it’s most likely not cce
        cce is very very tight

Interesting, thank you for your feedback. I'll be honest, it doesn't feel very good at impact unless you really catch it on the right swing path. I'm pretty good ball striker and have been having issues finding the center of the club face because of the lack of give in the hitting strip.

Not that I’m a pro or have any right to give advice
but it the Matts causing you to not find the center of the club face
                it’s not the Matt
your catching it fat hitting the Matt first

why I can’t say but experience tells me
that if your afraid of hitting down into your matt
you will reflexively make changes in your swing to avoid doing it
causing either fat or thin shots I suspect in your case fat

being comfortable that the surface your hitting into isn’t going to cause you harm is important

don’t take any of this to seriously I’m only guessing based on what you’ve posted
if my guessing isn’t welcome just let me know I won’t take offense
