which Mat?

I have been struggling on which Mat to use as I need both a stance mat and hitting mat or some combo. The options out there all have pros and cons.

1, Fibrebuilt- easy on joints but ball sits up all the time and makes it to easy
2. CCE- punishes bad shots but can lead to injuries over time due the the grabbiness
3. Quatro- this mat seems really good but coming in at slightly under 5x5 would be nice to have something a little bigger as center hitting is tough on something this small
4. fibrebuilt performance mat- Size looks good but I know nothing about this mat. Looks similar to CCE with the rubber base


I have read many posts here on Mats and watched many you tube reviews. All of this makes it harder to choose.
I am using a sim to get better and although the Fibrebuilt seems great I don't want the mat to give me a false sense of security

any comments good or bad are envouraged

There's a company in canada that makes a mat like the CCE but is way more friendly on the body. It's called Tartan Turf.

Not sure about your setup but I started with my sim with a cheap ($100) 150 x 100 cm mat that I used for stance and hitting. After about a year and a half My hitting area got worn down (on both sides after rotating) to the point where I couldn’t get a rubber tee to stand up straight. That mat was about 2 cm tall and was alright but I found a bit hard on joints but not very punishing on fat shots. I decided to order the YTG-3D from China two 90 x 30 cm strips that I put side by side for hitting and the use the 150 x 100 mat for stance. I actually ended up buying a new stance mat because the other one was a bit ragged. My point being, I might recommend getting smaller strips for hitting separate from a stance Matt because it will be cheaper to replace once that gets worn.

I have been using the RS TEE-UP GOLF RANGE MAT from Range Servant for 2 years now. I think it has a nice feel even when hitting fat shots... Plus, it's nice because you can actually put a real tee in it. I usually use the BirTees though.. Just because I don't like chasing the real tees after I hit.

I believe it was right around $500. We've played easily 500 rounds of golf on it and it still shows no sign of wear.

Maybe two Quattro mats? Cut each into a 3’ and 2’ section. Than do 3-2-3 with a spare center hitting strip?

so many choices and so many decisions. I really like the fibrebuilt but hate the fact that it is like cheating. not going to help me get better.

Came with HD Golf. Pretty permanent since screwed down but I guess you could just unscrew it?

i heard back from fibrebuilt and the fibrebuilt performance mat is the same material as the stance mat throughout

I dont have a fibrebuilt so what is it like hitting off the stance mat? is it able to take a tee as fibrebuilt says this takes a tee like the cce

It looks like the performance tee turf has an extra pad under the stance mat modular base

I started with a tee turf type mat which is similar to CCE mat. I was hitting a lot of balls and this mat wrecked both my elbows in short order. I was able to get a good deal on a Fibrebuilt mat and have not looked back. No more elbow issues. I think that it's difficult to know whether the tee turf type mat will injure you until you have committed to buying and using it for a while.
For me I don't think the Fibrebuilt is over forgiving , if you hit a super fat shot it will let you know , but it won't injure you in the process. From someone who has had both types and tried a whole lot of tee turf mats and ultimately chose the least grabby but still ended up with elbow issues , it's Fibrebuilt every time. I don't think the difference between a tee turf type mat and the Fibrebuilt could be likened to cheating as the difference in striking IMO is not that great but the impact on my body was.

I just got the Fiberbuilt after having the CCE for about 3 years. CCE was fine for me...until I started actually hitting a ball properly and hitting down on it (vs. flipping / scooping). As I've improved my game, CCE started to become tougher on my trail wrist and elbow, in particular. Reading on here it seemed like this was common. Haven't hit a ton off of the FB yet -- but it is clearly more forgiving in the injury department. Feel like I can hit all day without issue whereas CCE I could only hit about 20 balls at a time.

My elbows started to ache whilst using a CCE . Had it sitting on garage floor. Went to FB and so far big difference. One thing that jury is still out on is putting off the FB.

I went Fiberbuilt, and have tried just about everything in the hitting area. It is SUCH a personal decision...at least the strip is changeable with the FB stance and tray staying the same.

I like the Divot Action, although it’s wearing out too quickly. It’ll never make it through the off-season this fall. I have one that is all fairway, and one that is split between two rough lengths.

Just ordered the Quattro strip, looks promising. If it works, I may buy a 5x5 and cut it multiple times to make a strip stockpile. 🤣

What about the true strike mat , I see it’s expensive but the gel filled may seems like it might be the answer?
