  • Fiberbuilt Question

Hey guys two quick questions before I buy a mat from Fiber built.

    1. Is anyone looking to sell their mat?
    2. I'm looking at potentially the following two options
    5x4 Performance hitting mat
    5x4 Traditional mat

It's my understanding that the traditional mat is more expensive because it's a heaver duty unit as a whole, but that the performance mat is more suited for being able to hit from the tighter fairway lie. Is that correct? I spoke to a rep on the phone today that suggested that if I buy the traditional version and want to hit a lot from the short grass (not the insert) that I would quickly chew up the turf. If my understanding is correct, I'll probably go with the performance mat.

    Thanks for your help,
    Brian

where are you located? I might be selling a 4x9 studio mat soon as I am testing another option. I only want to do it locally however

The "5' x 4' Single Hitting Performance Mat" has a lighter weight styrofoam foundation. Videos on youtube show this as an old design. They are usually less expensive, shown as discounted on amazon etc. Curved corners, styrofoam fill, with zip ties to join some sections.

The rest of their products have the sharp corners and often indicate that they have a solid rubber foundation. Most are called studio mats, but even the "5' x 4' Single Hitting Traditional Stance Mat with Nylon Grass" has the solid rubber foundation. Rubber pegs bind the rectangles together. Everything is formed and has a snug fit.

I really don't hit off the stance mat portion unless I am putting. The bristle surface translates well for my game. Slightly fat shots are punished without destroying your wrist and elbows. Crisp and pure are just that.

Buy Jnc10 's 4x9 studio mat. I don't know the JNC10's price, but it changed sim golf for me. Elevate a putting surface to match the height and you will love the combination. Fiberbuilt should sponsor my posts.

I agree with Will I just bought a Fiberbuilt double-sided performance mat at Amazon and couldn't be more pleased. The performance mat does not have a solid rubber base. The base is comprised of four rubber frames in which you insert a heavy duty piece of styrofoam in each. They join together in the middle, where they can be zip-tied to maintain shape. The stance mat lays over the top, and the insert lays in a tray formed by the base on the side. For my use, it's perfect because I have a rubberized composite floor covering, so with the rubber sitting on top of rubber it's not going anywhere. No need to zip tie together. I'm 250 lbs. and the stance mat is plenty supportive.

As far as being a hitting surface, I could see using the performance stance mat for chips and pitches IF you hit near an edge, where impact is on a part of the mat sitting above the frame, and not sitting directly above a styrofoam insert. If you're a digger, I'd hit pitches off the insert, not the stance mat.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. The intention for hitting off the short fairway like turf is to more closely replicate the chipping/pitching from a tight bentgrass lie where you can't just lay the clubface open and do with the shot as you please. I wouldn't intend to take full shots from anything other than the insert area with the bristles. If you guys think that I should be able to do chipping and pitching from the stance turf, then I may go ahead and get one of traditional mats.

I’ve got the heavy one piece tray and 4x4 stance/1x4 strip...can’t remember the exact name.

I do quite a bit of tight lie chipping off the stance mat, and also all my putting too. I’ve seen no wear at all coming up on 1 year; and if I did, there’s 3 other sides to the stance mat to rotate to.

              I think it’s a great set up.
