  • Custom Design Golf / Divot Action / John Carilli

I ordered a practice mat, which is great, but also a replacement top for my Protee (not listed on the website). He has a turf top, which is a great idea, because I am really not a fan of the Fiberbuilt mat.

BUT, what I received was a very poorly cut mat that covered my sensors and would not let my system work at all. I lined up the Fiberbuilt and the new mat back to back to see how badly it was and it was BAD. I contacted him several times and he just blew me off and told me it must just need to be adjusted and to play around with it. No, really, it is useless. I measured how off it was and it was major. I'm happy to share pictures if anyone wants them.

Fortunately, I used my Amex as they always have my back. They will either sort it out for me, or just void the charge. But, just thought I'd let people know to make sure they are protected if they want to work with that guy. Also, the turf top and plexiglass were so simple I may just Try to make my own.

UPDATE: THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED
"Just wanted to update this thread. I've been using these mats, both for my sim and for my regular practice hitting for about a year now and they have exceeded my expectations. Despite my issues I had with my initial purchase, I would do business with them again. The mats wok great and much much better than the original mat, in my humble opinion"

Thanks for the follow up Baller! Because of this thread and Richard I installed the Lexan clear sheet under my fiberbuilt mat on the ProTee....love it not worrying about debri falling into the sensors. So you prefer the divot action over the fiberbuilt huh? When time permits would you snap a photo of your ProTee with the divot action? Any idea if the thickness of the divot action is the same as the Fiberbuilt since I have my flooring built up level to the current fiberbuilt mat? Much appreciated Baller!

I did not like the fiberbuilt at all. It was pretty hard to tell if you were making ball-first contact and nothing like hitting a real shot. I got the pad that can take a beating and be ok. There is another cover that is more sensitive and I didn't go with that one as I do hit some shots that aren't perfect here and there. It is the same level. I built my mat for the fiberbuilt as well, and this fit in perfectly to be the same height.

I have the protee replacement mat from custom golf and the plexiglass that goes with it. To be honest, I did not like them and went back to the original mat. My reasons are:

        1) the plexiglass affects putting. It reduces the effectiveness of the microphone in that I could not get short putts to register... Took the plexiglass off and problem went away.
        2) I hated the loud sound the mat and plexiglass made on every shot.... Very loud
        3) the mat was sent at first without the plexiglass and when I called they sent the plexiglass but I had to pay shipping twice.... And screws sent were not long enough so I had to buy my own... Not very customer orientated.

That being said, if anyone wants to try it, I'll sell it for 1/2 price.... Only hit about 20 shots on it

I just received mine today. It came with plexiglass with Velcro on it to mount to the sensor but the turf top has no means of fastening to the plexiglass. When I pull the tee out the whole turf pulls off the plexiglass. Anyone have any suggestions or can tell me how they did theirs?

Yeah, the way they send it is pretty Mickey Mouse... I would suggest drill holes in the plexiglass to match some of the holes of the sensor... Then use the Velcro to attach turf to glass

Do you just have your sensor pad just sitting on its own? I have my platform (homemade) that has my stance mat with a recessed cutout that e sensor pad fits into so everything is flush. The top mat for the sensor pad doesn't need to be secured as it has nowhere to go, but if I needed to I would use Velcro.

I have ordered from here quite a bit. I have a divot action mat for the optishot, impact screen, net & cage from customdesigngolf. Never had any issues with any of my purchases from him.

I use the DivotAction insert , I find the product to be great.

The company works a little different than most in the age of the Internet, but i didn't find that to be a huge show stopper.

They delivered on time with the product promised . I'll continue to use them

Did these guys go out of business?
I've emailed and called for 2 weeks now.
                    No response.

Good question. They have some cool stuff there but I always laugh when I first got my skytrak over a year ago and was looking on their site and saw the "position track" for the GC2 and it said it "will soon be available for skytrak devices" and its still says the exact same thing today without change haha. Its pretty much just a holding box on a slider. Not sure what they are doing over there nowadays

When i was first trying to order my divot action inserts it was hard to get in touch with them. But, they are a small company maybe on vacation or something. I left messages and they did get back to me. Btw the Divot Action insert is a fantastic product .... No more wrist pain, elbow pain, and my distances perfectly match the real golf course

Hacksalot, how thick is the insert.

I have an existing mat I want to sink it into.

                          Thanks

I was able to get in contact with John and made the drive down to his place in GA from my home in Nashville.

John is a great guy who is very passionate about the game.

After trying the divot action mat insert and sand action mat in person I was sold.

John is custom sizing my inserts to fit perfectly into my fiberbuilt mat.

No more sore shoulder from my CCE mat.

Launch angle, spin, and distance was spot on from my real grass numbers.

😀 another sim golfer converted. I started out using the CCE as most people said it was the "best". Honestly the Divot Action Insert beats it in any and all categories.
