Many of you may already be familiar with this but wanted to document it here for future readers….
Just got done with a DIY stance/hitting mat—used CCE for the impact section and went to my local STI and bought a 4’x6’ putting turf scrap to build the stance portion of the mat. I built up the stance turf with some tile foam mats from Home Depot.
I thought I had done a fair bit of research on what adhesive to use and read a lot about gluing the turf with PL premium.
Well the PL premium did stick to the back of the turf it had absolutely zero adhesion to the Eva foam. I ended up peeling it all off and used contact cement instead. That worked much much better… though I used a lot of it, probably 30oz given that the mat is about 4x6 and 2 layers.
Anyways hope that’s helpful for someone else and saves you the time and money I wasted. 😂
Still trying to figure out if and how i want to finish the edges of the mat. Curious if any of you have done anything interesting. Was thinking about trying and wrapping/gluing the the turf to the sides of the foam but the turf isn’t super pliable and worried it may not hold/adhere well. Could also build a wooden edge—I kind of like the idea of something angled to make it easier to grab a ball with my club and roll it up onto the hitting surface.
