  • Cutting in a hitting strip

I have got my 1" foam and turf laid on top. I also custom built a 12x24 hitting strip. I have been playing with the hitting strip on top for a while and I think I have everything dialed in as far as where I want to put it.

Any pointers as far as how to best cut the turf and foam?

I just used a utility knife. Nothing special. I used tape to mark where I wanted to cut. It was pretty easy.

I like this idea. Was planning on holding in place and trying to cut around it. Much better idea. I think gung ho mat says to leave a 1/8" on each side. So planning on that as well.

Cut from the underside and use a straight edge. Shouldn't be too bad.

Question when it comes to your mat: is the 1” foam holding up? I plan on building something for my hitting strip and was going to use plywood along with foam, but also concerned with weight(need to break down when I’m done using). Wondering if the foam was starting to wear down or anything like that.

Holding up fine. I have similar ones in my workout room. These are a bit thicker. Main concern is coming loose. I'll probably tape the seams before I cut the strip in.
