  • raised flooring questions

I am building my sim with Optishot. I purchased the jagaman Joe monster turf piece.

My goal is to have all the flooring the same height as the sensor, which will be about 2 3/8"

the room size will be 15 x 12. I could adjust this a bit, if needed. The room is cement floor.

I am looking to either build a frame with flat 2x4's or 1x2's on edge with OSB on top. These would be screwed into the cement floor. Then covering that with carpet pad and adding some decent putting turf on top. (OR if anyone knows of a turf that has the foam or rubber attached, it may be better because less chance of slipping? )

The other option is buying pieces of monster turf from allturfmat and skipping the platform.

Can anyone answer any of these questions:
-is there risk for slipping by having the carpet pad on the osb and then a turf on the pad?

-If I put down monster mats, will the seams be visible?

Does anyone have any other ideas? I have been reading through the site and spent hours researching. Sometimes hearing advice from those that have already done this can be a huge help.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

I built a modular floor out of 4x8x3/8"sheets with rigid insulation sandwiched between. Went 3 wide to get 12' with the Optishot in the middle one. I glued cheap outdoor carpet with underlay to it and it was acceptable, I'm sure proper turf would be a lot better. From sheet to sheet it didn't match up that great, but a decent carpenter I am not.

I'd steer clear of the Monster turf solution. I have one that I used for a short time and others have echoed the same thought - the monster turf is just too soft. It won't react well if you are going to be using it for putting and it, itself is difficult to get good footing on.

As was suggested, if you build a platform, then use rubber backed turf and glue it. I used carpet tile that is held in place by sticky pads on each intersection.
