  • Mats/turf help

Finally rounding out all the components for my build and I'm pretty set on a 5x5 or 4x5 CCE hitting mat that will be 6-8 ft from my screen.

I need to find some kind of mat to place between screen and hitting area roughly 8 wide x 6-8 deep.

Goal is to have this material thick enough to dampen shots coming off screen to concrete floor.

    Thanks

my opinion is you can go with almost anything but put a rug pad underneath. That's what I did and it works great. Just a cheap rug pad from Home Depot.

I agree completely with Bnorman, I went with standard 1/2 inch carpet pad and then the indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. I think my total area was like 10 x 11 and cost about $90

You can see it in picture below....My shots drop from the screen and get almost zero bounce...also nice for putting on.

I was kind of thinking something like this. HD has 6x8 turf and I can put my CCE mat on end.

The only potential issue with padding under it is that I plan on rolling this up frequently as it will be in my garage. Ideally it would be great if the turf had a gun padding already on it so it is one piece.

        Anything like this out there?

I use those pads that look like puzzle pieces under a carpet. They are at Home Depot or lowes. You can pick them up and store pretty easily.

You just put the black rubber tiles down? Or do you lay the turf over top?

I put the tiles down then I put an outdoor carpet I got from Costco that looks like a putting green on top. I put two levels of this tiles and it's about the same height as the CCE.

I did the 5x5 CCE hitting mat and then cut it into a pad and turf so it's the same thickness. Par 2 pro can help with this which is where I ordered from.

I have just some Home Depot outdoor carpet in green on a concrete floor. It muffles anything that hits the impact screen which is 12x9. It's also very cheap. The carpet has a little rubber backing which seems to do the job. Whether anything has an objectionable rebound is mostly the impact screen. In my case most shots just roll part way down the screen and drop gently onto the carpet. The only ones that don't are those which miss the screen and hit the top netting in the 9 foot high cage. I have 8 feet from the hitting location to the screen so the only shots that go higher then the screen are hard flop shots with a 58-60 degree wedge and of course idiot mark leaving driver shots,.

I think I may do this since they sell it in 8 ft width and whatever length. I can place my CCE mat on top of it at my hitting location.

I just didn't want balls falling off screen and bouncing all over the place in garage!

You have any pics of it setup?

Did you glue your outdoor carpet to the padding?

No, I used carpet tape which is basically double sided tape. I used it heavy around the edges and in spots in the middle....lays flat and stays put.
