  • What's more important... Brightness or resolution?

    hello,

just about finished with my sim build. Got fsx up and running for the first time today. The epson 4650 I'm using is plenty bright, but the resolution seems like it could be better. Native resolution is 4:3 1024 / 768. 4:3 fits my room the best... so maybe this is as good as it gets. Initially ordered the benq 2150 ... but changed to the epson for its native 4:3 and brightness. Also, I was concerned about the benq's brightness. I will be using swing cameras so the area will be well lit.

So.... what's more important... brightness or resolution?

    thanks for any help.

If your projector supports 1080p. You should be able to get a higher resolution. Try some of these. I have ran 1600x1200 at 4:3 and it looks great (different software)

    Hope this helps

OP stated that projector is 1024 x 768. It cannot project 1080p. Best it will do is project other resolutions within it's 1024 x 768 limitations.

Another thing You should use the keystone correction to get the picture straight. After that you can probably zoom in some to get a bigger picture
    Congrats on the build.

Both brightness and resolution are important but, if you are planning on using the projector in a well lit area, brightness is much more important. You'll be hard pressed to get brighter than the projector you currently have.

And as already suggested, fix your picture, that's also part of the whole equation.

It appears that projector may do slightly better with the resolution. The specs mention resizing to 1280 x 1024 and 1400 x 1050. You might check into that.

Thanks Everyone... I will play with the resolution today. I actually created that shape on the screen because it allowed for the largest picture. Walls angle in at the top. I've got the projector mounted about as close as possible to get the brightness picture. With the lights on... it does not wash out. Looks great brightness wise.

Overall, I'm happy with the picture. Only real issue is some of the text on the driving range is hard to read. Main thing that I'm having a problem with is reading the offline measurement when it pops up. Can read it...but you really have to look at it a second to figure out what it says. I don't see any options in fsx to change text size or colors.

          thanks again

Here is the specs on projector central.... would this mean I should be able to set computer resolution to 1400:1050, then set projector to that and get that resolution without out it being dumbed down by the native resolution?

No. You can never do better than the "native" resolution. You can try and fool it into thinking it's projecting something else, but all it has at its disposal is the "native" number of pixels.

Question was about brightness or resolution. Your projector gives lots of brightness with some limitations on resolution.

I wouldn't obsess with the pixel count at this stage. At some point in the future there will be more capable projectors. In the meantime, enjoy your sim.

I have a projector producing the same resolution as yours and I certainly enjoy my sim.

Right now I have it set to the native resolution. Thanks again.
