  • Any info on InFocus IN138HDST

Anyone try one of these yet?

looks like they just came out in November and at the price point the specs look fantasic compared to the BenQ HT2150ST or Optoma GT1080Darbee.

Just looked at it on Projector Central, looks like it checks all the boxes. If you get one please post up how it works out for you.

Hey, I just installed an Optoma Darbee 1080 ceiling mounted at 6.75 feet for a 100 inch wide 4:3 image. Works quite well, I recommend.

Got it all set up today, exactly what I wanted, works great in a lit room. Doesn’t looked washed out at all.

A few days in and still really happy with it. Again, nothing else to compare it to, but it meets/exceeds expectations.

Was originally planning on adding track/spot lighting above the hitting so I could dim the ambient lighting to brighten up the projection. But after getting it set up, I really don’t see the need since it’s plenty bright.

Waiting to get a proper gaming PC/TGC set up before I maximize the display image.

Thanks for posting this, looks really interesting. How far from the screen do you have it, and how big is your screen? Is the projector mounted on the ceiling, and if so how far off the floor?

That might be a winner at that price. I see it will do 16:10 which I need. The pictures you posted look like there is a lot of ambient light. Can you post one with the room a bit darker? I would like to see what it looks like in a darker space.

Luckily i have time since its so new there will be plenty of reviews hopefully but this projector i think beats the optoma 1080 at the price

I calculated for 16:10 aspect ratio, my screen “frame” is also 16’x10’, subtracting the list size for the emt piping and bungee/tarp clips holding the impact screen its usable size is 174” x 113”. Given those measurements I hung the front of the lense exactly 7’6” from the screen. Also followed the defined offset (mounted on the ceiling), which came out to 21” (I think) above the top edge of the screen (again to the center of the lens).

I hit off a hitting platform (12’x12’) that has a height of ~ 5” above the floor, I spaced the hitting platform about 12” from the impact screen, but hung the impact screen so it touches the ground. I calculated the projector distance to purposely project to the bottom edge of the impact screen (just lower than my hitting platform), so when standing, you will just see to the bottom edge of the projected image (hoping to give a more immersive/realistic, as if the hitting platform feeds into the image (once fully complete)) without a visible gap below.

With the height of the platform factored in, the bottom of the projector still sits almost exactly 10’ above my hitting platform, so ~ 10’5” above the ground.

(keep in mind the aspect ratio of WGT differs from 16:10 so the edges of the projected image will better match the edges of the screen once it’s all set)

Here it is without ambient light. Because of the way iPhone auto focuses/adjusts brightness I took two images. Both are the exact same lighting, just one focused on the screen and one focused on the platform in front of the screen.

Here it is all garage lights on (top) vs lights off (bottom).

since I didn’t focus on the screen in the top image it may look a bit dimmer, but in person it really is pretty solid with ambient lighting.
