Fantastic deals on Sony WUXGA (native 16:10) Projectors w/ 5K to 6K lumens

I ended up going used with the previous generation model, vpl-fh36, the vpll-z2009 short throw zoom lens, and a new OEM replacement lens for $800 all in.

16:10 @ 1920 x 1200, 5300 lumens and a business-class build quality far superior than any other projector I've owned. This thing is a tank.

I should have it mounted after I get my garage door rails raised next week, so I'll be sure to post an update on the results.

Looked into getting my garage rails raised and going with a jackshaft opener. How did you go about it?

I had quotes from a few local garage door companies, ranging from $1300 to do just the rails, up to $3800 to do everything, including raising the rails and installing new openers. (I have two doors that I need to raise, and need two new openers.)

I ended up ordering the parts necessary from DDM garage doors (drums, springs, rail kit):

they'll ship you a kit with all of the parts necessary after you fill out the wizard with your measurements, and then you can do the installation yourself. It was about $500 shipped.

I bought the liftmaster rjo20 jackshaft openers online for $360 each. chamberlain 8500w is another popular jackshaft model.


In the end, I found a local garage door company that will install the kits for $200 for each door, as I decided that I didn't want to mess with it. It seems simple enough, but there's a lot of energy stored in those springs, so it was worth it to me to have a pro handle that part.

I'm still going to install the jackshaft openers myself, as well as install the new power outlets for them on the wall.


Everything should be installed next week, so I'll make sure to post pictures and more details.

Can anyone with one of the fixed short throw lenses (vpll-2007 or vpll-3007) comment on the vertical lens shift?

The manual states that these only have a 10% vertical lens shift range, which to me implies that you can only mount this 10% above center without using keystone.


so for an 8' tall screen, the center of the lens would have to be mounted 9.6" above center, which obviously wouldn't work for a simulator.


how high do you have your projector mounted, and do you have to use keystoning to get a straight image?
