  • Best Projector for Gaming & Home Theatre

Have searched forums and tends to be a lot of good feedback on Optoma and BenQ short throw projectors, both for gaming and home theatre. ( so know where to go if go short throw)

Whilst I can put a projector on the ceiling and closer to the screen, I should also have no real issues in being able to place further back as am not really space restricted in depth of planned build.

    So questions are:

    1) if have a choice ( I.e. no space restrictions on depth), would you still go with ST projector... and if so, why?

    2) if would not go with a ST projector, is this because of better image, flexibility or price on normal throw projector?

    3) if normal throw projector, are there any Golfing / gaming specs I should look for outside of normal selection criteria for Home Theatre projector?

    Thanks

To answer your first question, the reason I believe a lot of people go for a short throw projector is because if it is ceiling mounted, the further back you mount it, the more likely it is that you will start to block the projection, or at least throw a shadow from where you are hitting. If you have unlimited height, as well as room depth, this may not be an issue, but assuming you need to have the projector relatively close to you, and therefore the screen, and you want a large projection (i.e. screen size) you'll need a short throw projector.

Issue is shadow. Simple. Short Throw is the preferred set-up.

        Thanks for feedback.

I currently have a projector that is to the right of me, high up and offset so don’t get any shadow on normal swing.... but can see how this would be an issue if lowered or more central.

With the ST (optoma and benq that most seem to have).... I presume that they at least need to be close to above head, or further back if mounted on ceiling, so no risk of a high loft ball hitting.... what sort of distance do most people set theirs at ?

Also I think some may mount on the floor..... how does that work, as wouldn’t it be in the way if central... as well as risk poss bounce back balls?

CBDBOZ The optoma will be above and in front of the user. There is a potential for a skied driver to hit it. Wedges, not really, but anythings possible. Distance from screen for optoma is dictated by how wide of an image you want and in what aspect ratio. Mine is about 6-7' from screen. It also has a large image offset, meaning the top of the image starts well below the projector, around 10" or so.
