  • Ideal Projector Throw Distance

    Hi All,

I'm trying to finalize the details of my screen and projector setup.

    I will have a 16:10 screen, 172" x 107.5" (202.875" diagonal), with 10' ceilings.

I've decided to go with a Sony large-venue 16:10 projector and a short throw lens.

IMO, there's a lot to like about these projectors, 16:10 aspect ratio(1920x1200 native), business class build quality(when new, these ranged from $5000-$10000), very high lumens(4000-7000), and now, reasonable prices, especially if you can find them used.

Reading through the forums, it seems that the general consensus is that the ideal hitting distance from the screen is 10'.

What is the ideal throw distance with a 10' hitting distance?

I've crunched the numbers, and for my screen size, and with one of the two available short throw lenses, I could go either 9.4' or 12.3-14.45'.

would you rather have the projector mounted almost directly overhead, or behind you 2' to 4.5' ?

I personally like mine closer to overhead. Im hitting around 8-9.5 ft projector is around 9.5-10 If i remember correctly.

I have almost exact dimensions Simulator the diagonal is about 205 with a business class projector I forget 5500 or 6500 lumens. I stand 9 to 11 feet. The projector is around 16.5 feet away mounted on 11 foot high ceiling

You have the ceiling height to do that. I don't. If I put it that far back I would have issues with shadows for sure. Im super jealous on your 11ft ceiling very nice.
