Been struggling with this for a day. Got a new projector because the old benq died. With this guide got it working in 10 minutes. Thank you very much.

Spoke too soon. When I opened the game - it doesn’t fit the screen. Is there resolution setting specifically for the game? If so where to I adjust it?

Hello, So I followed these steps and am successful until when I goback to windows and hit duplicate, it shrinks both the laptop and projectorr width... I am using a 16x9 1080p laptop(Alienware m17 R3) with a Optoma GT1090HDR projector. Any advice?

Baller , to add to my message, I got it to work by after switching it to duplicate, switching it back to extend then duplicate again, however it is squishing the image... This is likely due to the fact that I can't get the width to what I need at 1400x1080, it maxes out on the slider at 1440... Any ideas how to get to 1400?

I tried this last night and noticed the same thing. The width slide won't go lower than 1440. I have an 8x8 screen and need a 1080x1080 resolution which i can do by making a custom resolution, but was wondering if i would get better image quality by "adjusting desktop position". Any ideas on how to lower the slider?

So difficult to give advice on this sometimes since it seems that all computers handle it differently and it can be buggy until you figure out how yours works. You need to duplicate both the the higher resolution screen and then dumb-down the lower resolution one to match the dimensions so that your computer or GPU treat them as the same. So in your case, using a laptop, if your projector has a higher resolution than your laptop, you'd want to do this backwards.

Hope that makes sense and hope you get it working!

So...just got a new projector, optima gt1080hdr, but running into a problem with the offset. My last projector, benq, compensated for being offset to the right by a foot or so. Optima is seriously lacking in the ability to offset for side angles and is also without a zoom. Leaves me to attempting to adjust the picture digitally. I can resize the screen properly as described in this thread, however it's offset over to the right side. Is there a way to move the resized screen all the way to the left? Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance...

Not that I know of.. That function is called "Image Shift" I believe and is a projector function. I think you can do a little bit of it from Windows but your full size projector image has to already project into that desired space.

this is really helpful thank you Baller , however, I am curious how this might limit your ability to leverage your golf sim for a multi-purpose movie theater as well.

If you mount your projector at a throw distance to fill the entire screen vertically, then just manually adjust the resolution to fit the entire screen, then how do you watch a movie in 16:9 format without the image spilling over the sides of the impact screen?

I am working with an 8x8 impact screen and want to mount the projector in an optimal position so I was curious about your feedback.

I was thinking a potential workaround could be mounting the projector on a unistrut rail (ive seen mounts with unistrut adapters) so you can slide the projector back and forth closer to the screen if needed, but would definitely like to avoid this scenario if I could.

                Thanks in advance!

I just wanted to add some more information that I just used to fill my 4:3 projector screen with a 4k 16:9 projector. Watch this youtube video and it explains it all very simply. This assumes you have Nvidia Control Panel access (aka you have an Nvidia GPU).

                  The short version:
                  1. adjust your projector mounting at its native resolution and get the HEIGHT to fill your screen. Don't worry about the width yet. A custom resolution will fix the width.
                  2. measure your screen you are trying to fill. Divide your screen width by your screen height to get that ratio. My example was 122.5 inches wide by 90 inches tall. My ratio was 1.36111111
                  3. multiple your projector max height resolution (ex: 3840x2160 -> the height value you want is 2160) by the ratio above. This gave me 1.36111111*2160 = 2940.
                  4. Go into Nvidia control panel and create a custom resolution of 2940x2160.
                  5. Go to windows display settings and choose the new custom resolution you just created, 2940x2160.
                  6. You should see your screen filled in very nicely.
                  7. Play some golf!

                  Hope this helps.
